ABOUT THE CITY
Cañon City is proud of their rich heritage and many cultural and artistic venues. Located in the Southcentral portion of Colorado, it is a Home Rule Municipality and the county seat of Fremont County. It is a Council-Administrator form of government with Administrator reporting directly to the City Council. Cañon City was founded in 1858 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush and was originally intended as a commercial center for mining in South Park and the upper Arkansas River. With a city population of 16,725, Cañon City straddles the easterly flowing Arkansas River and is a popular tourist destination for whitewater rafting, sightseeing and rock climbing.
ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the Parks Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks to construct and maintain parks, forests, trails and/or cemeteries for the City of Cañon City.
Range of duties include:
· Performs grounds maintenance, landscaping, and tree maintenance tasks in city parks, cemetery, and rights-of-way.
· Pick up litter, remove trash, rakes leaves, clears brush, operates irrigation systems, and mows grass.
· Inspects and samples trees, plants, and grass for insect or disease problems. Applies herbicides and pesticides to control weeds and insects.
· Performs rough carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks to install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems.
· Cleans, repairs, and maintains public buildings, facilities, parks, public restrooms, campgrounds, recreational facilities, and cemetery.
· Operates equipment such as trimmers, mowers, sprayers, power rakes, aerators, snow plows, trash compactors, dump trucks, loaders, trenchers, chippers, and chain saws to improve, maintain, and repair parks, trails, and/or cemeteries and to plant, prune, or remove trees.
