The Opportunity
WSP has an exciting opportunity for an Archaeology Field Director to join our Heritage team in British Columbia. As an Archaeology Field Director, you will work closely with the Heritage team to lead and manage projects throughout the province. You will gain valuable and diverse work experience as part of our province-wide Heritage team and will have opportunities to work on multidisciplinary projects that will contribute to your professional development. The successful candidate will have or be close to obtaining their Field Director qualification in the Interior Plateau Culture Area and will be based in one of the following BC offices: Kelowna, Castlegar, Cranbrook, Kamloops or Rossland.
Your Impact
Lead archaeological field programs, which may include archaeological survey and testing, excavation, or monitoring
Work with the project team to achieve the technical requirements and expectations of clients, Indigenous groups, and regulatory agencies
Work collaboratively and respectfully with Indigenous communities and their members during all aspects of the project lifecycle
Provide leadership and guidance to junior project staff
Work with the project team to manage scope, schedule, and budget throughout the project lifecycle
Maintain and track health and safety, quality, communication, and documentation for projects
Participate in WSP’s Health & Safety program, demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff
Undertaking analysis and preparing and contributing to proposals and technical reports
The Skills That Set You Apart
Field Director status in the Interior Plateau provincial cultural area, or are a strong field supervisor actively working towards your Field Director qualification
Ability to work both independently and part of a diverse team
A willingness and passion for working with Indigenous groups and communities
Experience identifying, recording, and evaluating archaeological sites
An ability and willingness to perform field work in a variety of weather conditions and varying durations
Experience with standard data collection equipment that may include GPS and hand-held tablets. Experience with ESRI Field Maps is an asset.
Experience working with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat software
A detail and result oriented mindset
Strong written and oral communication skills
High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethics
Strong writing skills and experience writing interim and final permit reports
Valid driver’s license (Class 5)
First aid and other safety tickets would be considered an asset, but all necessary training will be provided to the successful applicant

Compensation:
BC, AB, SK, NWT & NU: $80,800 – $107,000
MB & ON: $73,700 – $101,500
Atlantic Provinces & QC: $73,000 – $96,900
