MetLife Full Stack Software Engineer - Observability in Cary, North Carolina

Role Value Proposition:

The Observability team within MetLife’s AIOps organization is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to help design and build a custom, modern observability event‑correlation and automation framework. You’ll focus on hands‑on application development across front‑end and back‑end components, building scalable services, clean APIs, and intuitive UIs. You will collaborate with platform and product teams while maintaining strong engineering craftsmanship, with exposure to SRE practices such as instrumentation, SLIs/SLOs, and resilient release engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop reliable, user‑centric front‑end components and admin experiences (e.g., triage dashboards, incident timelines, platform settings).

  • Build stable, well‑versioned back‑end services and APIs for event ingestion, correlation queries, and automation triggers.

  • Create workflow definitions and automation hooks that enable safe, auditable remediations and human‑in‑the‑loop controls.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams; perform code reviews and contribute to shared libraries and patterns.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Proven full‑stack development experience with modern front‑end frameworks (React/Angular/Vue) and back‑end runtimes (Node.js/Java/.NET/Python).

  • Strong API design skills (REST and/or GraphQL), including schema versioning, pagination, and error/observability standards.

  • Practical knowledge of containerization and cloud‑native development (Docker/Kubernetes) as a developer consumer.

  • Clear communication, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Preferred:

  • Solid testing discipline (unit, integration, contract) and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and release automation.

  • Exposure or awareness of SRE practices (e.g., instrumentation, SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, progressive delivery) applied in a developer context.

  • Experience with Azure Monitor & Log Analytics/Insights; OpenTelemetry for signal collection.

  • Familiarity with observability ecosystems (Splunk, Elastic, Datadog, AppDynamics) and ITSM/event‑management integrations.

  • Contribution to open-source projects (code, docs, or tooling) and engagement with developer communities.

  • Agile/DevOps ways of working: iterative delivery, trunk‑based development, and build/run ownership for services.
