Summary:
We are seeking a EHS Manager – NYC/ NJ operations to lead safety across BrandSafway’s high-risk construction access operations, including scaffolding, hoists, suspended access, and public protection systems. This is a field-first leadership role responsible for driving a culture of accountability, ensuring regulatory compliance, and proactively managing risk across complex, high rise construction projects throughout NY/NJ.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Leadership & Risk Ownership:
Act as the primary safety leader in the field, supporting branch operations across NYC job sites.
Lead safety execution on scaffold, hoist (material & personnel), and suspended access systems.
Maintain authority to stop work where unsafe conditions exist.
NYC Regulatory & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with NYC DOB Chapter 33, OSHA, DOT, MSHA, EPA, FDNY and NFPA.
Support response to NYC DOB violations, audits, and stop work orders.
Partner with engineering and operations on pre-task planning, filings, and site-specific safety plans.
Inspections & Audits:
Conduct regular job site inspections and safety observations.
Perform SSWP audits and compliance reviews.
Identify gaps and drive corrective actions with clear accountability.
Training & Culture:
Deliver and enforce safety training programs across field and yard operations.
Drive a culture of accountability, ownership, and proactive hazard identification.
Partner with leadership to reinforce safety as a core operational expectation.
Incident Management:
Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and safety events.
Ensure thorough documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
Interface directly with GCs, site safety managers, and regulatory bodies.
Represent BrandSafway in client safety meetings and audits.
High-Risk Activity Oversight:
- Oversee safety related to rigging and hoisting operations, dropped object prevention (“Stop the Drop”), tie-ins, anchors, structural connections, sidewalk sheds, bridges, and public protection systems.
* Qualifications:*
7–10+ years’ experience in commercial construction safety, with a strong preference for scaffold / access / hoist operations and high-rise construction in NYC.
Strong working knowledge of: NYC DOB Chapter 33, FDNY Regulations, OSHA regulations, rigging and hoisting safety practices.
Proven ability to lead in the field and enforce standards.
Experience in union environments.
CPR/ First Aid Trained.
OSHA 30 for Construction (required), additional certifications preferred.
NYC DOB 62 Hr. SST card required.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
Willingness to travel locally (75%+ field-based role).
