Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Radiological Controls Supervisor and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day implementation of the WIPP Radiological Control Program and Conduct of Operations in all aspects of routine, abnormal, and emergency response work. The successful candidate will provide work assignments for Radiological Control Technicians. The candidate will ensure that radiological support for WIPP operations are conducted in accordance with the approved procedures implementing ALARA principles and compliance with 10 CFR 835; coordinate with other Departments, create Radiological Work Permits, analyze job hazards and prescribe mitigations, and provide input to Procedures and Work Packages; ensure the completion of surveys, posting and controlling radiological hazards, radioactive source control, routine air monitoring; and other duties as assigned by the Radiological Control Manager. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work independently, with limited direction and guidance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or

  • Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.

  • One (1) year of experience as a Department of Energy (DOE) qualified Radiological Control Technician is mandatory.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

--This position is included in the Training Implementation Matrix (TIM) which defines requirements for personnel selection, training, qualification and certification requirements at DOE Nuclear Facilities. Preferred Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience as a qualified Radiological Control Supervisor.

  • Six (6) years as a qualified Radiological Controls Technician.

  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Exempt grade level(s) 28-31. Salary range: $69,444 - $130,969 per year --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
