Job Summary

The Tech Services Engineer provides on-site service and remote technical support for microelectronics/semiconductor assembly equipment, including die bonders (die attach), wire and wedge bonders, and vacuum reflow ovens. This role installs and qualifies equipment, performs preventive and corrective maintenance, and owns support cases end-to-end (triage, troubleshooting, escalation, and closure) to maximize uptime, yield, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Field Service (On-Site)

· Install, commission, and qualify equipment at customer sites (new installs, upgrades, relocations), including site readiness checks and acceptance testing.

· Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, motion-control, vision/alignment, thermal, and vacuum-related issues; restore production safely and quickly.

· Perform preventive maintenance (PM), calibrations, alignments, and verification checks; document results and recommend reliability improvements.

· Support service-level applications needs: verify programs/recipes, confirm tool setup, and assist with basic process checks in collaboration with Applications/Engineering.

· Provide customer training for operators and maintenance teams on safe operation, routine PM, and first-line troubleshooting.

Technical Support (In office)

· Provide Tier 1–2 technical support via phone/email/Hubspot: intake issues, gather symptoms, run structured diagnostics, and deliver clear customer updates.

· Own support cases in a ticketing/CRM system: log contacts, capture tool configuration and evidence (logs, photos, alarms), document troubleshooting steps, and close cases with corrective/preventive actions.

· Perform remote diagnostics: interpret alarms, analyze tool logs/data trends, and guide customers through safe checks to reduce downtime and unnecessary dispatches.

· Coordinate escalation for complex issues: reproduce problems when possible, assemble complete evidence packages, and interface with Engineering/OEM teams through resolution.

· Develop and maintain knowledge assets (troubleshooting guides, known-issue notes, service bulletins) and share learnings to improve first-time-fix performance.

· Support End of line testing of machines.

· Troubleshooting and repair of machines in production.

· Participate in on-call or after-hours support rotations as required.

Service Operations & Customer Success

· Create high-quality service reports and failure summaries; communicate root cause hypotheses, actions taken, parts used, and follow-up recommendations.

· Coordinate spare parts identification, ordering, usage tracking, and RMA/return analysis (as applicable) with Service Operations/Logistics.

· Identify recurring issues and contribute to structured root-cause analysis and continuous improvement to reduce repeat failures and improve reliability.

· Maintain professional customer relationships and promote safe work practices and compliance with customer site protocols (ESD, cleanroom, safety).

Required Qualifications

· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics Technology, or equivalent practical experience.

· 3+ years of field service, equipment maintenance, or technical support experience supporting capital equipment (semiconductor, microelectronics assembly, automation, or related industries).

· Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills (motors/servos, sensors, motion control concepts, pneumatics, and electrical systems).

· Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings; comfortable using DMMs and precision measurement tools.

· Excellent customer communication, documentation, and case ownership skills; able to work calmly under time pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

· Hands-on experience servicing die attach/die bonding platforms and/or wire/wedge bonders (setup verification, basic program/recipe checks, alignment concepts).

· Experience servicing vacuum reflow ovens (vacuum integrity, chamber mechanics, basic thermal stability verification).

· Working knowledge of vacuum systems (pumps, gauges, fittings, leak-check practices) and safe service procedures around heated/thermal equipment.

· OEM capital equipment service background and familiarity with structured problem-solving methods (RCA/8D).

Tools & Technologies

· Die bonders / die attach systems; dispense/epoxy and solder die attach processes (depending on toolset).

· Ultrasonic wire/wedge bonders.

· Vacuum reflow ovens (vacuum hardware, chamber mechanisms, thermal control systems).

· Diagnostic tools: digital multimeter (DMM), alignment tools, torque tools, leak-check methods, and remote support software.

Work Environment, Travel & Physical Requirements

· Frequent travel to customer sites (typical ranges vary by territory; may include occasional weekends/holidays).

· Ability to work in cleanroom/ESD-controlled environments and follow customer safety procedures.

· Ability to lift and move typical service tools/parts (commonly up to 50 lbs) and work around equipment requiring kneeling, bending, and standing.
