Job Description
General Statement of Duties: Reports to Code Supervisor under the direction of the Chief Building Official for the inspection of housing structures in the City of Canton. Performs related work as required. Employees of this class are also required to follow up on all properties to ensure completion with respect to Certificates of Occupancy, demolition, or complaints dealing with residential housing facilities. Distinguishing Features of the Class: * Employees of this class must apply the standards and regulations of Chapter 13, Titles 7 and 9 of the City of Canton Codified Ordinances and such State and Federal regulations as are required to protect and preserve the housing stock within the City of Canton. *Examples of Work: Inspects existing dwellings and buildings, either occupied or unoccupied by humans, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 13 of the Codified Ordinances of the City and all other building codes and regulations enforceable in the City of Canton, State of Ohio, or as required by Federal regulations. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Employee must be familiar with construction terminology and general knowledge of building materials. Must be familiar with City of Canton Building and Housing Code. Ability to detect unsafe and unsanitary living conditions and make recommendations for their correction; ability to maintain positive working relationships with building owners, contractors and tenants; employee should possess good public relations skills. Employee shall be required to obtain an International Property Maintenance Code Certificate per International Code Council within ninety (90) days after the date of appointment. Employee shall be required to take a Code Officer General Knowledge Test.
