IBM Consulting Australia is seeking a dynamic AWS Chapter Lead to drive our cloud architecture, engineering excellence, AI‑enabled transformation and practitioner capability uplift across the region. This is a leadership role for a proven AWS practitioner who thrives at the intersection of technical leadership, people development, client delivery excellence, and growth.
As the AWS Chapter Lead, you will guide large‑scale cloud modernisation programs, shape architectural best practices, lead AWS tribes and communities of practice, and empower teams to deeply adopt AI across delivery lifecycles — from application migration and modernisation to software engineering.
About the Role
As an AWS Chapter Lead, you will be accountable for capability leadership, performance discipline and delivery governance, talent uplift and innovation and while supporting growth of our AWS consulting practice. You will work across multiple client accounts, major transformation programs and internal strategic initiatives, ensuring IBM delivers high‑quality, modern and AI‑driven outcomes across industries.
Your role and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Origination, Bid Management & Growth Leadership
Lead or support deal origination, shaping IBM and AWS aligned value propositions, solution architectures and differentiated offerings.
Drive bid leadership, contributing to proposal strategy, solution governance, estimation, and client presentations.
Collaborate with IBM industry and account teams to identify opportunities forAWS‑based transformation, and AI‑driven modernisation to unlock business value.
Build strong working partnership with AWS to drive growth together
- AWS Capability Leadership & Chapter/Tribe Management:
Lead and scale AWS capability, competency development and practitioner proficiency across architecture, engineering and FinOps.
Build and coach high‑performing AWS Architecture and Engineering Tribes, fostering deep expertise in cloud-native design, platform engineering, migration and modernisation.
Define the learning strategy for AWS certifications, hands‑on labs, community events, and internal knowledge accelerators.
- AI Advocacy & Engineering Transformation
Act as the champion for AI adoption across all cloud transformation work.
Embed AI into:
application migration & modernisation patterns
architectural assessment frameworks
software engineering and DevSecOps workflows
Drive adoption of generative and agentic AI, code acceleration, and automation in delivery teams.
- People Management & Talent Development
Manage a team of AWS practitioners, providing coaching, mentoring, performance management and career development.
Role‑model IBM’s leadership behaviours, cultivating a growth mindset culture built on collaboration, curiosity and continuous improvement.
Lead workforce planning, succession planning and recruitment aligned to practice growth.
- Delivery Excellence, Quality & Governance
Provide architectural leadership and delivery oversight on complex AWS programs including migration, modernisation, data transformation and platform engineering.
Ensure adherence to IBM and industry best‑practice frameworks for architecture, delivery assurance, risk management, and cloud governance.
Conduct solution reviews, delivery health checks and technical assurance activities when needed.
Required technical and professional expertise
Technical Expertise
Deep technical knowledge and hands‑on experience with AWS native services, cloud‑native architectures, landing zones, networking,security and IAM.
Demonstrated experience leading large‑scale migration and application modernisation programs (replatforming, refactoring,containerisation, serverless, API modernisation).
Strong expertise in cloud DevOps, automation, IaC (CloudFormation/Terraform), CI/CD, observability and AI‑accelerated engineering.
Consulting, Industry & Leadership Experience
Proven track record leading client‑facing engagements, owning deliverables and managing executive stakeholders.
Experience leading complex delivery programs with strong governance discipline and multi‑vendor coordination.
Ability to guide clients through cloud strategy, business case creation, discovery, design and execution phases.
Demonstrated industry experience in one or more sectors such as banking & finance, public sector, energy and utility etc.

Other Requirements:
Australian citizen and eligible to work on secure projects.
Willing to travel mostly interstate as/when required.
Preferred technical and professional experience
• Familiarity with Angular.js: Knowledge of Angular.js is beneficial for designing cloud-native solutions and providing technical guidance on related AWS Services. • Understanding of API and Microservices: Experience with API and Microservices-based architecture implementation is advantageous for leading the implementation of architecture for omnichannel systems of engagement. • Proficiency in Multiple Cloud-Native Technologies: Expertise in multiple cloud-native technologies, such as Node.js, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, or Netflix OSS, is desirable for designing cloud-native solutions.
