Job Description

The Firewatch supports refurbishment activities by assisting skilled trades personnel and closely monitoring welding operations to prevent fire hazards. This role involves handling materials and tools, maintaining clean work areas, and staying alert and focused throughout the shift in a dynamic repair facility environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support all functional areas involved in LCAC refurbishment efforts.

  • Pick, handle, and organize materials, parts, and tools to support daily operations.

  • Serve as an assistant to ship fitters, mechanics, electricians, and welders as directed.

  • Continuously observe welders while they work to identify and respond to potential fire hazards.

  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail when monitoring sparks, slag, and surrounding materials during welding activities.

  • Help keep work and office areas clean, organized, and free of debris to support a safe workplace.

  • Use basic hand tools, drills, and other equipment safely under supervision.

  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.

  • Remain focused and attentive throughout the entire shift, especially during welding operations.

  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality to support consistent operations.

Essential Skills

  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to closely monitor welding activities for potential fire risks.

  • Ability to stay focused and alert for the entire shift while performing firewatch duties.

  • General mechanical aptitude and comfort working around mechanical, construction, and refurbishment activities.

  • Ability to safely handle and organize materials, tools, and equipment.

  • Capability to perform physical labor, including standing, walking, and working in a repair facility environment.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

  • Willingness to follow safety instructions and use required personal protective equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with mechanical work, construction, or general labor is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with hand tools, drills, and basic carpentry tasks is a plus.

  • Experience assisting trades such as ship fitters, mechanics, electricians, or welders is advantageous.

  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in work and office areas.

Work Environment

This position is based in a repair facility where LCACs are housed in large hangars or on the tarmac. You will work both indoors and outdoors and must be comfortable working in hot and cold weather conditions. The environment involves active refurbishment work with mechanics, electricians, welders, and other trades. Steel-toe shoes are required and are a non-negotiable part of the dress code. Safety hats, safety glasses, and gloves are provided on site, and you must wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times while following established safety procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Camp Pendleton, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
