HUMAN RESOURCES ADMINISTRATOR (HRA), Chemistry, is a strategic partner supporting all personnel matters in the Department of Chemistry. The role oversees a full range of HR functions including employee relations, recruitment and hiring, onboarding, performance management, compensation processes, diversity and inclusion efforts, and compliance. The HRA fosters a respectful, inclusive, and high-performing workplace and provides guidance to faculty and staff. Key responsibilities include advising on organizational design, workforce planning, and talent management; mediating employee relations issues; and ensuring compliance with MIT policies and employment laws. The HRA leads staff hiring and onboarding, manages job descriptions, and partners with leadership on promotions and salary changes. The HRA supervises a Human Resources Coordinator and oversees academic and research appointments, including visas and relocation processes. Additional duties include administering performance and salary review processes; processing HR transactions, leaves, and sabbaticals; supporting collective bargaining matters; maintaining confidential records; communicating personnel updates; and contributing to policy development. The HRA may design and deliver training and manage special projects.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years of relevant HR experience; strong communication skills; discretion; ability to work independently and collaboratively across all levels; customer-service mindset; attention to detail; the ability to manage multiple priorities, strong knowledge of employment laws and current HR practices; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to build trust with and support a diverse community are essential. PREFERRED: Supervisory experience and PHR/SPHR certification.
