Nanobiosym is an innovative, high-tech company that is developing novel technologies at the nexus of physics, nanotechnology, and biomedicine. Founded by MIT/Harvard alum and located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Nanobiosym was awarded the first X-Prize to be given for healthcare.
Position Overview:
We are growing our engineering team and looking for a driven, detail-oriented Senior Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of complex hardware programs from concept through volume production. This is a hands-on technical leadership position for someone who thrives at the intersection of rigorous circuit design, DFM, and embedded systems - and who wants to see their work shipped in real-world, regulated products.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive the complete hardware development lifecycle - from architecture and specification through schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, validation, and handoff to manufacturing.
Lead PCB design initiatives, ensuring layouts are performant, scalable, and optimized for high-volume production.
Review and finalize routing and layout concepts, defining the electrical scope for each product.
Translate early-stage design concepts into production-ready circuit solutions.
Design and integrate systems built around MPUs, memory, and FPGAs, working closely with embedded software teams on low-level driver requirements.
Partner with cross-functional teams to define, iterate on, and validate hardware and firmware requirements.
Realize compact, constraint-driven single-board control systems.
Produce and maintain rigorous documentation: design requirements, component selection rationale, engineering calculations, power budgets, and thermal analyses.
Design and build test fixtures to support hardware validation and functional verification.
Actively contribute to regulatory and quality processes, with particular emphasis on FDA and ISO 13485 requirements.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
5-10+ years of hands-on product development experience in electrical engineering roles.
5+ years of proficiency with Altium Designer, Autodesk Eagle, or equivalent PCB CAD platforms.
Demonstrated experience navigating compliance requirements in regulated industries (FDA, ISO 13485, or equivalent).
A clear record of taking PCBs from first prototype through DFM review and into volume manufacturing.
Strong embedded hardware skills, including C and Assembly for low-level system development.
Preferred skills:
Verilog / FPGA / ASIC, LabVIEW (3-5 yrs)
Java
NI CLD or CLA certification
Medical device launch experience
PhD or MS/ME in EECS
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD or MS/ME in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
National Instruments certification (CLD or CLA) and hands-on LabVIEW development in automated test environments.
End-to-end experience bringing a medical device or similarly regulated hardware product to market.
Working knowledge of Verilog, FPGA, or ASIC design flows.
