About the Opportunity
A leading life sciences organization is seeking a hands-on Bioprocess Associate to join a specialized pilot-scale manufacturing team. This group operates at the intersection of process development and large-scale biomanufacturing, supporting a broad portfolio of biologics programs across multiple therapeutic modalities.
The team runs an integrated upstream/downstream operation at scales up to 500L, prototyping next-generation manufacturing technologies and providing technical support for clinical-stage programs. This is a highly applied, operations-focused role, ideal for candidates who thrive in dynamic lab environments and enjoy solving day-to-day engineering and process challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Execute upstream cell culture and downstream purification operations from vial thaw through formulated drug substance at the 200Lā500L scale.
Set up, operate, and troubleshoot bioprocessing equipment including rocking and single-use bioreactors, chromatography systems, and filtration platforms (TFF, VF, UFDF).
Pack and qualify chromatography columns up to 40 cm diameter.
Perform in-process and analytical testing using a variety of laboratory instruments.
Document all work in electronic laboratory notebooks in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Write, review, and revise SOPs, manufacturing procedures, batch records, and technical reports.
Monitor process performance and flag atypical trends for investigation.
Contribute to troubleshooting of equipment and process deviations in collaboration with engineering, automation, and quality teams.
Generate and summarize process data to support technology development, product introductions, and facility tech transfers.
Participate in cross-functional project teams and represent the pilot plant as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline (Chemical Engineering strongly preferred).
Approximately 1ā5 years of relevant experience in an academic, co-op, internship, or industry setting.
Strong scientific and mathematical foundation: working knowledge of pH, pressure, flow rate, mass transfer, density, and basic cell metabolism.
Comfort with unit conversions, dilution calculations, basic algebraic manipulation, and data analysis.
Proficiency with standard software tools: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Windows operating environment.
Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills.
Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
