Signature Research, Inc. Software Engineer/Developer in Calumet, Michigan
Some people write code. Others want to understand why the code exists in the first place. We're looking for the second kind---an engaged, curious Software Engineer/Developer to join the Signature Research team in Calumet, Michigan. Preference given to those working in-office in Calumet. We are open to a 50/50 hybrid schedule for the right person who lives within a reasonable drive distance of our Calumet headquarters.
This role is for a computer science professional who brings the technical chops and the curiosity to really dig in. Talent matters---but what matters more is how you show up: how you ask questions, how you dig in, how you communicate what you've learned, and how you collaborate with a team of thoughtful, driven peers.
If you're the kind of developer who doesn't wait to be told what to do---who gets curious, pulls on threads, and wants to understand how systems and models really work---you'll feel right at home here.
What You'll Be Doing.
- Working alongside a collaborative, in-office team to design, develop, and improve software systems and software models.
- Digging into the "why" behind the work---understanding how things function, where they can improve, and how decisions ripple through the system.
- Writing clean, thoughtful code and backing it up with clear documentation.
- Communicating your ideas, findings, and recommendations in an open, professional office environment.
- Participating in discussions that value logic, curiosity, and respectful challenge.
- Taking initiative---seeing opportunities, asking questions, and moving work forward without waiting for step-by-step instructions.
What We Offer.
- $70,000 -- $110,000 annual salary, depending on experience, education, and demonstrated capability.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance with *100% company-paid premiums *for you and your family.
- Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) Plan with 8% -- 10% company contribution.
- Five weeks of paid vacation plus sick time and holidays.
- Full-time, Monday -- Friday position generally working 8am -- 4pm.
*What We're Looking For. *Someone who:
- Is naturally inquisitive and motivated to learn.
- Has strong logical thinking skills and can clearly express ideas---both verbally and in writing.
- Enjoys collaboration and thrives in a setting with other engaged, thoughtful professionals.
- Has "fire in their belly"---you care deeply about doing good work and understanding how it all fits together.
Technical Must-Haves (and nice to haves).
- Proficiency in C++ and Python required; experience with Julia a bonus.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Comfort working in a professional office environment with technical peers.
- A genuine fascination with technology and how systems are built, modeled, and optimized.
- S. citizenship along with the ability to obtain (and maintain) a security clearance. Don't have clearance? No problem---we'll help you through the process.
Experience
- 3 or more years professional experience preferred, but we're open to earlier-career candidates who can demonstrate deep curiosity, strong thinking skills, and an engaging presence.
- Relevant coursework/experience such as machine vision, machine learning/artificial intelligence, multispectral modeling and simulation, and/or robotics is highly valued.
- If you can clearly articulate how you think and why you approach problems the way you do, we want to talk.
