Special Education Teacher – Self-Contained
Location: Calumet City, IL
Start Date: ASAP through End of School Year
Pay: Up to $55 Hourly
The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides high-quality services to students. This role requires strong collaboration skills, a student-centered mindset, and a commitment to individualized instruction, consultation, and support for general education teams.
K–2 Cross-Categorical / Self-Contained Teacher
Building: Elementary School
Setting: Self-contained / Cross-Categorical
Grade Level: K–2
Caseload: Amergisum of 13 students
Support: Paraprofessional assigned to the classroom
Position Overview
The K–2 Cross-Categorical/Self-Contained Teacher will deliver specialized academic and behavioral instruction in a structured environment designed for early learners. This role involves implementing IEPs, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and fostering foundational skills in communication, social development, and academics.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university (preferred)
Valid state teaching certificate as required by district or contract regulations
Minimum of one year of teaching experience (preferred)
Preferred certifications:
Standard Elementary Teaching
Standard Secondary Teaching
Standard Special Education Teaching
Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1)
Compliance with all relevant professional standards and state/district requirements
Current CPR certification if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray as required
Current health certificate per applicable regulations
Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age
