Who We Are Looking For
We’re seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to join the Embedded Development Team within the Video Applications group at the Barlow office. This role focuses on building applications and systems that power digital video services for the Shaw Direct satellite TV platform .
The ideal candidate is:
Strong in C/C++ development
Experienced with embedded software , real-time systems , and multi-threaded environments
Collaborative, positive, and customer-focused
Skilled at solving complex technical challenges in a fast-moving environment
Comfortable working with cross-functional teams and external vendors
What You Will Do
As a Software Developer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting embedded software solutions for Shaw Direct Digital Satellite Receivers.
Your responsibilities include:
Core Development
Design and implement applications, middleware, and porting layers for Digital Satellite Receivers.
Develop and port embedded software, including:
Interactive program guides
Service-layer middleware
Platform porting layers
Integration & Collaboration
- Work closely with hardware vendors and various internal teams to integrate hardware and software products.
Testing & Support
- Build and improve test infrastructure and related support mechanisms.
Continuous Improvement
Help automate and improve the development process.
Debug, maintain, and enhance existing products.
What You Bring:
Required Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science , Electrical Engineering , Computer Engineering , Physics , Math , or equivalent.
Strong programming skills in C and C++ .
Proven experience in software design, coding, testing, and maintenance .
Hands-on experience with embedded software development .
Understanding of real-time, multi-threaded programming concepts .
Excellent spoken and written English.
A collaborative, friendly, and customer-oriented approach.
4–10 years of industrial (non-academic) software development experience — co-op experience counts.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with:
User interface or graphics development
Linux as a development environment
Embedded Linux or RTOS (e.g., VxWorks )
Makefiles, build scripts, and automation tools
Scripting languages: Perl, PHP, JavaScript, Python, Groovy
Jenkins or other CI tools
Docker or similar container technologies
Scrum / Agile methodologies
