Reporting to the Division Manager, and their designate, the Quality Control and Boiler Technician is primarily located in Calgary, AB, and will be required to travel to various site locations, as assigned by their immediate manager, or their designate. The Quality Control and Boiler Technician will play a key role in managing our ABSA program, ensuring compliance with Alberta Boiler Safety Association requirements, and supporting quality initiatives across field and office environments. They will guide the project teams and provide quality-related support to the operation to ensure quality standards are upheld.

The ideal candidate is a detail‑oriented Welding Engineering Technology graduate with strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in quality assurance and boiler/pressure equipment work. They are familiar with ASME B31.1 and B31.3, comfortable working in both field and office environments, and eager to support ABSA compliance and quality initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure all QA/QC activities are understood and implemented in accordance with Black & McDonald and client standards

  • Manage and maintain the ABSA program for Alberta

  • Assist or lead in the development and implementation of quality assurance programs within the Alberta region and drive continuous improvement initiatives to achieve zero defects across projects

  • Administer and update formal quality management documents (manuals, policies, procedures, plans, checklists) to meet regulatory and client requirements

  • Ensure compliance with customer quality management systems and interface with regulators and auditors as required

  • Perform inspections and verification activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards

  • Monitor work for deviations from specifications and ensure timely corrective actions

  • Support material receiving, code material tracking, and documentation control

  • Work closely with Operations to develop and monitor project quality plans, including subcontractor compliance

  • Liaise with Purchasing and Operations to establish quality requirements and evaluate suppliers and subcontractors

  • Investigate and resolve customer quality concerns through consultation and problem-solving

  • Participate in field activities, including opening/closing boilers and diagnosing issues (training provided)

  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Welding Engineering Technology degree (required)

  • Interest in pursuing a skilled trade (boilermaker, welder, or fitter)

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates with 1–4 years of related trade experience will be considered an asset

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic knowledge of QA/QC principles considered an asset

  • Knowledge of boilers and pressure vessels

  • Familiarity with ASME B31.1 and B31.3 codes

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work in both field and office settings

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Proven experience MS Office (Outlook, Word, Project, and Excel)

  • Class 5 AB Driver's License and clean abstract
