Job Description

This hands-on leadership role supports the Site Superintendent in managing day-to-day field operations on a high-rise construction project. You balance skilled carpentry with crew coordination, site logistics, and safety oversight. The position starts with a slower phase focused on site monitoring during civil, drilling, and excavation work, and then transitions into a fast-paced environment as subtrades mobilize and construction activity ramps up.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Superintendent’s on-site right hand, especially during periods when the Superintendent is not present on site.

  • Perform a wide range of carpentry tasks and lead by example on active job sites.

  • Delegate daily assignments to crew members, provide clear direction, and monitor progress throughout the day.

  • Coordinate deliveries, manage site inventory, and ensure materials and equipment are available when needed.

  • Maintain consistent, high-level communication with the Superintendent regarding progress, issues, and scheduling.

  • Uphold and enforce safety protocols and quality standards for all workers and subcontractors on site.

  • Assist with site setup activities, including layout, temporary protections, hoarding, and general site organization.

  • Support inspections and contribute to project close-out procedures as the project nears completion.

  • Troubleshoot construction challenges on site and offer practical, timely solutions.

  • Independently oversee and monitor the site during the early project phase, ensuring work proceeds safely and efficiently.

  • Use and maintain power tools such as skill saws and drills to complete rough and finish carpentry tasks.

  • Build guard rails and other basic and finish carpentry elements as required by the project schedule.

  • Coordinate and communicate daily with subtrades, including morning meetings to review tasks and priorities.

Why Work Here?

You join a growing construction team with multiple active and upcoming projects, providing strong long-term stability and room for advancement. The company offers competitive compensation based on experience and access to significant overtime opportunities on certain projects, with extended workweeks available for those who want to maximize their earnings. You benefit from a supportive, mentorship-focused culture where seasoned professionals invest in your development and craftsmanship. The work is challenging and rewarding, giving you the chance to build complex, high-rise projects and sharpen both your technical and leadership skills.

Work Environment

This role is based on an active high-rise construction site that will grow from approximately 100 workers to around 200 as the project progresses. The schedule typically starts at 6:00 - 7AM and runs until project needs are met, often around 5:00–6:00 PM. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic once subtrades mobilize, while the early phase involves more independent site monitoring during civil, drill rig, and excavation work. Management operates in an oversight capacity and does not self-perform work, so field staff play a critical role in execution. You regularly use power tools such as skill saws and drills, operate equipment like skid steers if qualified, and work in varying weather conditions, which may require heating and hoarding measures. The role involves both skilled and general labor, including manual lifting and repetitive tasks, in a setting that values safety, organization, and proactive site upkeep.
