Your role and responsibilities

The IBM Client Innovation Centre CIC occupies a unique position in the IT marketplace - at the intersection of business and technology. In this role, you'll work in our IBM Client Innovation Center (CIC), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

As a Junior Application Developer, you will:
• Assist in designing, developing, and testing RESTful APIs and integration services under guidance.
• Support API implementation using enterprise integration tools, with a focus on MuleSoft as part of the learning journey.
• Participate in the API development lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, build, and deployment.
• Work with senior developers and architects to build reusable integration components and connectors.
• Support API documentation using standards such as OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving integration and API performance issues.
• Learn and apply best practices in API security, governance, and lifecycle management.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including application developers, data engineers, and business stakeholders.
• Contribute to Agile delivery practices including sprint planning, stand-ups, and code reviews.
• Stay current with modern integration patterns, cloud technologies, and MuleSoft platform advancements.
Required technical and professional expertise
Core Programming & Professional skills
• Proficiency in at least one programming language: Java (preferred for MuleSoft), Python, or JavaScript
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals:
o Data structures and algorithms
o Object-oriented programming concepts
o Writing clean, modular, maintainable code
o API & Integration Fundamentals
• Solid understanding of web and API concepts, including:
o RESTful services and HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE)
o Data formats such as JSON and XML
o API contracts and specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger awareness)
o Enterprise Integration Exposure
• Familiarity with integration patterns and messaging concepts such as:
o Request/response, event-driven architecture
o Basic knowledge of middleware or ESB concepts (nice-to-have)
• Databases & Data Handling
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Understanding of data transformation and mapping concepts
• Tools & Engineering Practices
• Experience with version control systems: Git/GitHub
• Exposure to development and testing tools such as:
o VS Code, IntelliJ/Eclipse
o Postman or similar API testing tools
• Understanding of unit testing basics and debugging practices
• Cloud & DevOps basic knowledge
• Basic awareness of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or IBM Cloud
• Familiarity with CI/CD fundamentals and deployment pipelines is an advantage
• Exposure to containerization tools like Docker is a plus
