Job Summary and Qualifications

As an Exercise Physiologist at our facility, you will be joining a team that is dedicated to serving others in need and making everyday decisions based on compassion. Every role has an impact on our patients’ lives and you have the opportunity to make a difference. Join us in our efforts to better our community! In this role you will:

  • Perform patient assessments and reassessments on a regular basis in accordance with AACVPR guidelines. Performs all cardiac exercise prescription, ECG and blood pressure monitoring. Assesses each patient through an interview process to assess needs, risk areas, ability to perform the physical activity and follow instructions. Places electrodes appropriate to the activity, in a safe and effective way.

  • In collaboration with interdisciplinary members of the team, formulates a plan of care including expected outcomes for each patient based on diagnoses derived from patient assessments. Maintains professional relationships and conveys relevant information.

  • Assures proper setup for physical activity and verifies electrode placement, quality of signal and the function of all equipment prior to beginning the activity. Recognizes signs and symptoms, which reveal appropriate activity level to achieve cardiovascular improvement. Observes patient for both appropriate and inappropriate responses to physical activity.

  • Monitors patients closely during the period following the physical activity, checking vital signs until stable. Monitors patient comfort level, soliciting verbal feedback.

  • Completes daily reports, monthly and discharge reports in a timely manner. Reviews inpatient census daily to determine appropriate patient care in the inpatient setting relevant to Cardiac Rehabilitation.

  • Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient and families. Relays information appropriately over telephone, pagers, and other communication devices.

  • Interacts with patients and families with a variety of developmental and sociocultural backgrounds. Provides information to patients and families to reduce anxiety and convey an attitude of acceptance, sensitivity, and caring.

  • Performs 12 lead EKG, cardiac stress tests and ambulatory Holter monitors per department policy. Advises provider of results of examination and provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation. Notifies provider of significant scan deviations that may necessitate immediate action.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology.

  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support

Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification

  • Knowledge of the physiology of exercise and the perception of a person’s exercise capabilities; hospital experience is desirable.
