Family Practice of Cadillac, P.C. Clinical Medical Assistant Apprentice in Cadillac, Michigan

Education:     High school diploma or equivalent required.  Michigan CNA certification or

                      equivalent work experience required.  Acceptance of the apprenticeship

                      program requirements for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).

Apprenticeship Requirements:

  • Complete a 90-day probationary period before enrolling in NMC Ed2Go program.
  • Sign Apprenticeship Agreement with MIWorks.
  • Agree to completion of the 12-month CCMA program through NMC Ed2Go.
  • Complete the 12-page training guide and finish NMC program in 12 months.
  • Agree to completion of the CCMA certification exam.  A passing grade will be required to continue employment with Family Practice of Cadillac in a Medical Assistant capacity.

Classification:  Full-time

Hours:  32-40 Hours per Week 

              4 Shifts per Week

              Varying Shifts:

                        7:30am-3:30pm

                        8:00am-6:00pm

                        1:30pm-9:00pm

               Weekend Rotation:

                        Saturday 7:30 -2:00

                        Sunday 8:45 - 1:00

Note:  Medical assistant apprentice reports ½ hour before the physician schedule; i.e. if schedule says 8, medical assistant apprentice arrives at 7:30am; if schedule says 8:30, medical assistant apprentice arrives at 8:00am; if schedule says 2, medical assistant apprentice arrives at 1:30pm.

Responsibilities:

The following responsibility sections must be performed under the direct supervision of a certified medical assistant.

  • Performs routine pre-examination procedures including taking vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, PHQ-9 and assessing and recording objective and subjective data concerning patient's presenting condition during the rooming process.
  • Assist the physician in all medical/clinical aspects of his/her responsibilities of patient care in a timely, efficient manner.
  • Obtain specimens for flu, urinalysis, pregnancy tests, COVID, etc. and perform said tests.
  • Administer various IM, SUBQ, and ID injections, including allergy injections as               directed by the physician.
  • Administer pediatric, adolescent, and adult vaccines and document.
  • Perform EKG, hearing and eye testing and document.
  • Perform sterilization of instruments and supplies in preparation for procedures.
  • Address gaps in care/treatment opportunities.
  • Accurately and completely document all patient interaction in medical record.
  • Assist with exam room stocking of supplies.
  • Properly clean and disinfect patient care areas.
  • Assist with incoming telephone calls regarding patient care; see telephone                responsibilities below.
  • Follow all practice protocols, including OSHA/MIOSHA and HIPAA rules and                regulations.
  • Assist with any other tasks requested by Clinical Team Leader.                    

Telephone Responsibilities:

  • Answer mobile phone calls in 3 rings unless rooming a patient.
  • Assist with patient assessments.
  • Contact patients regarding test results and other doctor orders.
  • Assist with return patient calls.
  • Submit prescription renewals to pharmacies.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Assist with all other phone messages, forms, etc.

Assist with other miscellaneous duties:  biohazard collection, laundry, collection, eye wash station monitoring, crash cart supply monitoring and ordering, oxygen tank monitoring, supplies inventory and ordering, vaccine prog
