Apprentice Tool & Die Maker Penn United Technologies, Inc. is now accepting applications for a full-time Apprentice Tool & Die Maker to join our Die Maintenance team. The right candidate will possess strong mechanical and problem-solving skills, thrive in working in a team-focused manufacturing atmosphere, and is able to participate in apprenticeship classes in order to learn the skills and meet the requirements to become a Journeyworker Tool & Die Maker. Penn United Technologies currently employs over 650 people in our employee-owned precision manufacturing company, located about 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh in Butler County. Responsibilities: Learn, according to applicable apprenticeship standards, the knowledge and skills necessary to receive state certified Journeyworker Tool & Die Maker papers upon completion of program. Learn to properly maintain and repair tools for progressive stamping dies; learn to change over tools as needed and assist in problem solving Read prints & job orders to determine dimensions and machine set-up Set-up and operate various machining equipment such as manual and CNC lathes, mills and surface grinders in order to machine or grind components to precise customer specifications. Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media. Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices (such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc..) Attend on-site apprenticeship classes in addition to on-the-job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor, including die maintenance and die assembly responsibilities.
Qualifications
Qualifications: Excellent math & mechanical skills/aptitude Ability & desire to do precision work Previous experience with lathes or mills is a plus, but not required Knowledge of blueprint reading, and precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers preferred, but not required Candidates must be able to lift up to a minimum of 40 lbs., and stand 8-10 hours per day Able to work independently and as part of a team Commitment to safety and quality Ability to regularly attend required, on-site apprenticeship classes Must be able to work rotating shifts of daylight, afternoon and midnight High school diploma or GED equivalent is required Preferred: Some vocational-technical machining training
