Job Description

AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking a talented Senior Electrical, Instrumentation & Control Engineer to join our growing team in British Columbia. In this role, you will contribute to the design and delivery of critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the Lower Mainland. Working alongside multidisciplinary experts, you will apply your technical expertise in electrical systems, instrumentation, and controls to help develop reliable, innovative solutions that support resilient communities.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers-in-training and designers.

  • Deliver EI&C engineering for municipal infrastructure projects across Western Canada, including Metro Vancouver.

  • Develop control narratives, philosophies, and contract specifications.

  • Design and specify process instrumentation and control systems for water/wastewater treatment and industrial applications.

  • Support development and review of P&IDs, SCADA, telecommunications, CCTV, and security networks.

  • Collaborate with project managers, process engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate project deliverables.

  • Prepare construction cost estimates and technical effort estimates.

  • Support project management, contract administration, and field reviews during construction.

  • Contribute to project budgets, schedules, and technical planning.

  • Ensure all deliverables meet AECOM QA/QC standards and client requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, from a recognized/accredited post-secondary institution

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience preferred in water/wastewater industry and engineering design experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical, instrumentation & control environment;

  • Registered as Professional Engineer in Canada (EGBC preferred)

  • Experience in electrical design and commissioning, including electrical distribution systems, PLC/DCS controls, variable speed drives, and instrumentation & control systems in municipal or light industrial environments.

  • Proven experience preparing tender and design documentation, including P&IDs, single-line diagrams, control/communication diagrams, electrical and instrumentation layouts, I/O assignments, loop and wiring diagrams, specifications, and technical reports.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 15+ years related water/wastewater industry and engineering design experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical, instrumentation & control environment;

  • Proficient in use of design tools such as AutoCAD and/or other design tools (AutoCAD P&IDs/Electrical) will be a desirable asset.

  • Familiar with communication protocols, PLC, DCS systems.

  • Familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association, Canadian Building Code), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), and experience in building (fire alarm and communication) systems;

  • Provides support to project management, contract administration and field reviews for project under construction.

  • Experience with Metro Vancouver engineering standards is a strong asset.

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $135000 to $185000.
