Aerotek Mechanical Assembler in Burnaby, British Columbia

Job Title: Mechanical Assembler

Job Description

This role focuses on building complex mechanical and electro‑mechanical assemblies for advanced test and automation equipment used in the clean‑energy sector, including fuel cell, electrolyzer, and battery testing systems. You will work from engineering drawings, schematics, bills of materials, and work instructions to assemble frames, enclosures, sub‑assemblies, and full test systems. The position is hands‑on and detail‑oriented, ideal for someone who enjoys precision work, problem‑solving, and contributing to innovative clean‑energy technology in a lean, team‑oriented manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble mechanical components, frames, enclosures, and sub‑assemblies for fuel cell and battery test equipment according to engineering documentation.

  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings, schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and assembly instructions to build complete systems.

  • Install pumps, valves, regulators, tubing, manifolds, and other mechanical hardware as specified.

  • Perform mechanical fitting, alignment, torqueing, and in‑process quality checks to ensure assemblies meet specifications.

  • Follow schematics to complete both electrical and mechanical assemblies, including panel builds and wiring where applicable.

  • Assemble test equipment and electro‑mechanical systems, including tubing spools and hoses.

  • Prepare and route wire harnesses, including cutting, labeling, bundling, and securing cables.

  • Build electrical panels, install conduit and Panduit, route cables, and perform wiring and terminations.

  • Perform soldering tasks when required to complete electrical connections to the specified standard.

  • Work on units ranging from small assemblies to large systems, which may require climbing ladders, drilling, tapping, and mechanical assembly on larger equipment.

  • Use a computer to access and complete documentation, follow work instructions, and record assembly progress or issues.

  • Collaborate closely with electrical and controls teams during system integration to ensure smooth commissioning of test systems.

  • Identify assembly issues, non‑conformances, or design concerns and communicate them clearly to engineering or production leads.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on assembly processes, tooling, and documentation.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all safety procedures and guidelines.

  • Work within a work cell structure, either independently or with a partner, to complete assigned projects within expected timeframes.

  • Perform repetitive assembly tasks within a project while adapting to different projects and configurations over time.

  • Carry out additional miscellaneous tasks related to assembly and production as required.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2+ years of experience reading and interpreting schematics and applying them to wiring, panel builds, and assemblies.

  • At least 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with some flexibility based on strength in schematic reading.

  • Proficiency using common hand tools and assembly tools safely and effectively.

  • Ability to follow detailed engineering drawings, BOMs, and written work instructions with high accuracy.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English to understand instructions and document work.

  • Good computer skills for accessing documentation, drawings, and recording information.

  • Experience with wiring, routing, and termination of cables and wire harnesses.

  • Ability to perform or learn basic soldering for electrical connections.

  • Capability to work on both small and large assemblies, including climbing ladders when needed.

  • Strong attention to detail, precision, and quality in mechanical and electrical assembly work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Technology is an asset.

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical manufacturing assembly is an advantage.

  • Experience specifically with panel builds, wire harnesses, routing, and panel or wiring terminations.

  • Experience in assembling test equipment or complex electro‑mechanical systems.

  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing or rapid prototyping environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex electrical and mechanical schematics.

  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies, tools, and processes.

  • Patience and resilience, with the ability to stay focused and not become easily frustrated during detailed or repetitive tasks.

  • Ability to work independently, paired with a partner, and as part of a larger, collaborative team.

  • Openness to feedback and coaching, with a positive attitude toward continuous improvement.

Why Work Here?

You will contribute directly to cutting‑edge clean‑energy technology in a rapidly expanding organization that values innovation and continuous improvement. The environment offers the potential for the role to become permanent, with future eligibility for benefits. You will work in a supportive, team‑oriented culture that recognizes contributions through team appreciation events and provides exposure to advanced test and automation equipment. This setting offers opportunities to grow your skills, take on varied projects, and build a long‑term career in a modern manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, quiet, lean manufacturing facility operating as a rapid prototyping environment with a team of around 25 people. Work is organized in work cells, where you may work alone or with a partner on projects typically lasting from about four days to two weeks, depending on size and complexity. The work can be repetitive within a given project but varies over time, so you are not performing the exact same task for extended months. You will use computers for documentation and follow structured processes while collaborating closely with other technical teams. The standard shift runs Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (8.5‑hour shift including a 30‑minute lunch). The dress code allows comfortable clothing with required steel‑toe footwear; shorts and sweatpants are not permitted.
