Jacobs Junior Wetlands Specialist - AB or BC. Full Time or Flex in Burnaby, British Columbia

Based out of your home office in Calgary, Edmonton, or Burnaby you’ll work as part of our Wetlands Team to contribute to the environmental planning and permitting efforts of government and privately-owned infrastructure projects. You will have the opportunity to support projects through field data collection efforts, and assist with the development of technical reports, review of field data, data management and regulatory applications as needed. This position will start in the spring with an anticipated 80% of travel for fieldwork and 20% office work. A successful offer will be full-time or a 12-month contract depending on workload and/or skillset. Contracts have the potential for extension or conversation to full-time. Diploma, B.Sc., or M.Sc. in biology, related to ecology, hydrology, wetlands, botany, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

At least 1-2 years of relevant field experience in environmental consulting or equivalent.

Proven field skills and willingness to work in the field in remote locations for extended periods of time if required.

Experience in satellite and aerial imagery interpretation, classification, and delineation of wetlands in the field in Alberta.

Skills in identifying wetland vegetation, hydrological indicators, and hydric soils.

A driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

Experience using the ArcGIS platform, in the desktop (ArcGIS Pro), web-browser, and mobile (Field Maps and Survey123) environments. Experience viewing and/or collecting field data using a mobile app (ex: Esri Field Maps or Survey 123).

Experience or interest in supporting other biophysical study areas such as reclamation, vegetation, wildlife, soils, and/or fisheries field assessments.

Biologist-in-Training designation.

Experience classifying and delineating wetlands in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and/or British Columbia.
