Clinical Scholar Pathway – Assistant/Associate/Professor

For more than a century, University of Vermont Health has delivered compassionate, whole-person care to the people of Vermont and northern New York. The Division of Hospice and Palliative Medicine provides comprehensive palliative care services across six hospitals and one home health and hospice agency, partnering with patients, families, and care teams to improve quality of life for those living with serious illness.

The Department of Family Medicine at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, in partnership with the University of Vermont Health, invites applications for a board-certified or board-eligible Hospice and Palliative Medicine physician to join our growing academic Division of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

The Successful Candidate Will

· Provide inpatient palliative care to adult patients and their families as part of an interdisciplinary team

· Advance the Division’s commitment to excellence in serious illness communication, clinical quality, innovation, and scholarship

· Teach and mentor learners across the continuum, including medical students, residents, and fellows

· Demonstrate outstanding communication skills in clinical, interpersonal, and educational settings

Position Details

This is a 1.0 FTE position structured to provide 176 days of inpatient clinical service annually, including weekends and holidays. Clinical responsibilities are based primarily at the University of Vermont Medical Center, with additional service at one affiliated community hospital or program.

The academic appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level (rank commensurate with experience) on the Clinical Scholar pathway. The University is particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to the academic mission through teaching, quality improvement, scholarship, and service.

The Division of Hospice and Palliative Medicine is deeply integrated into the educational mission of the Larner College of Medicine. Faculty contribute to teaching medical students, residents from multiple specialties, and fellows in the ACGME -accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. The learning environment emphasizes serious illness communication, symptom management, and interdisciplinary teamwork.

Anticipated Pay Range

Assistant Professor: $248,300

Associate Professor: $263,300

Professor: $278,300

The referenced salary ranges reflect the combined total range based on dual employment by both the University of Vermont and the University of Vermont Health Medical Group. The salary ranges do not include all components of compensation. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary ranges stated herein.
