The College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont (UVM) seeks applicants for a full-time 9-month, Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Department of Education, Early Childhood Education program beginning in Fall 2026. We seek a collaborative and talented colleague with expertise in early childhood education (birth through grade three). Qualified candidates will have earned their doctorate prior to the start of the position. Professional work experience in public education settings and/or early childhood care settings is expected. The occupant of this position will: 1) teach undergraduate courses, supervise practica or clinical internships; b) engage in collaborative service to the program, department, college, university, and state; c) engage in scholarship equivalent to authoring or co-authoring one peer-reviewed manuscript per year. We are particularly interested in individuals who share UVM\'s Our Common Ground values.

The Department of Education

The Early Childhood Education program is situated within the Department of Education. The Department of Education is widely recognized for its rigorous academic research, high-quality student experience, innovative teaching practices, and collegial, inclusive work environment. We offer a large number of undergraduate and graduate educator preparation programs birth through grade 12, as well as academic masters and doctorates in curriculum and instruction, special education, higher education and student affairs, educational leadership and policy studies, and interdisciplinary studies.

UVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country. The greater Burlington area has an increasingly diverse population of about 125,000 with a panoramic setting on the shore of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that include:

  • Teaching 6 course sections or their equivalents
  • Advising Early Childhood majors and/or Childhood Studies minors
  • Participate in collegial teamwo rk and collaborative service in the discipline including engaging in service activities at the program, department, college, university, regional, and state level
  • Engaging in scholarly and clinical activities

Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in a relevant field;
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and UVM\'s Our Common Ground principles;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogy and supervision skills needed to successfully prepare educators;
  • Evidence of strong collegial communication and collaborative teamwork skills.
