SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The Cook for the Friendly Kitchen is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals for the Burlington community. This role ensures all food safety standards are met, maintains a clean and organized kitchen, and supports the overall mission of The Salvation Army through quality service and interaction with clients, volunteers, and staff.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and prepare weekly and monthly menus that meet nutritional guidelines and provide variety.

  • Prepare, cook, and serve balanced meals in accordance with established schedules.

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchen, dining area, and equipment.

  • Clean and sanitize tables, chairs, floors, and kitchen surfaces after each meal service.

  • Store and rotate food and supplies, maintaining accurate inventory levels.

  • Follow all standard food safety and sanitation procedures at all times.

  • Monitor and report equipment issues or safety concerns to Corps Officers promptly.

  • Ensure all necessary certifications and permits are maintained in compliance with city and state regulations.

  • Interact respectfully and professionally with clients, volunteers, and staff.

  • Represent The Salvation Army’s mission and values in all interactions.

  • Recognize and refer individuals with spiritual needs to the Corps Officers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Current Serve Safe certificate or willing to acquire within 60 days
