Payroll Specialist
Temporary assignment that will start as a 1 month assignment and renew on a month to month basis as needed
Hourly Rate: $28.85 – $38.46
Schedule: M-F, 8:30am-5:30pm
Work Arrangement: Remote (must be local to Los Angeles office and able to come in for special projects/meetings)
Position Overview
This temporary role supports the Payroll function and is focused on core payroll processing and reporting activities. The position partners closely with HR and Finance while maintaining a primary emphasis on payroll operations and employee support.
Key Responsibilities
Process bi-weekly multi-state payroll (U.S. and UK as applicable), including data entry, review, auditing, and post-payroll reporting
Reconcile payroll against funding and support Payroll General Ledger (G/L) reconciliation
Process employee status changes, timekeeping updates, make-up time forms, meal waivers, and stipends
Administer 401(k) deferral changes and loan updates
Calculate and process final pay for terminated employees
Manage garnishments and agency responses
Assign and update time-off policies within the payroll system
Prepare overtime and other payroll-related reports for leadership
Generate recurring and ad hoc payroll reports for Management, HR, and Finance
Support payroll documentation needs for internal and external audits
Provide ongoing support to employees and supervisors regarding payroll inquiries, timecard edits, and time-off requests
Qualifications
Experience processing multi-state payroll
Strong understanding of payroll reconciliation and reporting
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, VLOOKUP, and Pivot Tables
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
This temporary assignment is centered on payroll execution and reporting within an established team structure.
Requirements
BA in Accounting/Business Administration
3–5 years of payroll and general ledger accounting experience
Knowledge of general accounting principles
Knowledge of employee labor laws, taxes, relevant legislation, policies and regulations
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
Proficient in ADP software preferred
Outstanding organizational and time management skills
Ability to collect and analyze data efficiently
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
Ability to work independently
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
