Job Title: Polisher / Grinder Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Polisher / Grinder to join our team in Amherst, NY. This role is pivotal in finishing stainless steel and aluminum fabrications, ensuring they meet the high standards required for food and pharmaceutical applications.

Responsibilities

  • Grind, polish, and finish stainless steel and aluminum components to both sanitary and visual standards.

  • Work on tanks, pressure vessels, and custom fabrications using hand tools, power tools, and polishing equipment.

  • Inspect finished surfaces for defects, consistency, and overall quality.

  • Follow fabrication drawings, work instructions, and adhere to shop standards.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

  • Collaborate closely with welders, fabricators, and supervisors to meet production timelines.

  • Support efficiency and quality improvement efforts within the finishing process.

Essential Skills

  • Prior experience polishing and/or grinding metal fabrications, with a strong preference for stainless steel.

  • Understanding of manufacturing and shop-floor expectations.

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.

  • Ability to listen, take direction, and follow instructions.

  • Reliability in attendance and a positive attitude.

  • Versatility within a shop environment and willingness to support where needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in metal polishing and grinding is preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and work instructions.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs.

Work Environment

The position involves working in a machine and fabrication shop in Amherst, specializing in stainless steel solutions for the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and chemical industries. The shop is open air, with no air conditioning or heating. Employees may wear a sweatshirt in the fall and winter, provided it is not loose. The environment emphasizes quality, precision, and industry compliance.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Buffalo, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
