Brief Job Description

This position is for a systems analyst with a strong focus on design, operations, and support of infrastructure (on-premises and cloud), applications, end user computing, and back office applications. Responsibilities include system administration of on-premises hypervisors and cloud infrastructure, as well as Windows and Linux operating systems. This position will coordinate and handle technical support problems for internal teams and member campuses, monitor and administer operating systems. Troubleshoot equipment performance and health of remote and internal campus systems. Assist in conversations regarding critical situations with ITEC’s senior management. Assist ITEC and member campuses with Linux and Windows operating system issues and with the planning and implementation of installations and upgrades. This position will be responsible for design assistance, implementation, and ongoing operational support for various technical tasks, including end user computing service offerings, server adjustments, help with applications, and new implementation efforts. Application administration, implementation, and development for Microsoft 365 applications, including but not limited to SharePoint, Intune, Outlook, OneDrive, MS Teams, and OneNote. Investigate and evaluate software which promises to be useful to the SUNY support community. Support ITEC senior management level staff in determining system requirements and capabilities, as well as appropriate hardware and software configurations. Provide direction in the on-going process of support for member campuses, while aligning to ITEC’s standards.

The location for this position is in Buffalo, NY. An office location at a New York State or SUNY Institution may be possible.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

  • Experience administering Windows environments, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.

  • Experience with core Windows services such as Active Directory, IIS , PowerShell, Event Viewer, Group Policy Objects, Sites and Services, and indexing services.

  • Experience administering virtualized environments, including VMware ESXi and VMware Horizon (design, configuration, implementation, operations, and support).

  • Technical support experience, including enterprise network technologies such as firewalls, routers, switches, and security appliances, along with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and identity technologies, including Identity Management and Active Directory federation.

  • System administration experience across multiple platforms, including Windows and UNIX /Linux variants, with working knowledge of common services (web, mail, SSH , NFS ).

  • Experience with automation or scripting, including programming or infrastructure automation tools.

  • Experience with end-user computing and virtualization technologies such as Citrix, Hyper‑V, KVM , Xen, or Oracle VM.

  • Experience with public cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS , Google Cloud Platform, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with enterprise systems management, monitoring, and infrastructure platforms (e.g., VMware Workspace ONE , vRealize, System Center, Exchange, SQL Server, storage and blade architectures).

  • Familiarity with ITIL / ITSM frameworks.

  • Work experience in an educational environment.
