GE Vernova Transport Specialist - EMEA Hydropower Projects in Budapest, Hungary
Job Description Summary
The Transport Specialist is responsible for end-to-end project logistics from supplier/workshop through international transport and customs clearance to hydropower project sites, covering heavy/oversized equipment (turbines, generators, and balance-of-plant).
The role supports both bidding and execution by conducting route surveys and feasibility studies, estimating logistics costs, sourcing and contracting freight/transport providers in SAP, and coordinating packing/lifting/lashing, EHS compliance, and on-time, cost-effective deliveries with cross-functional stakeholders and external partners.
Job Description
What you will do (Roles and Responsibilities):
ITO / Project Bidding
Perform logistics feasibility studies and route surveys during bidding to validate transport solutions and define transport limitations.
Develop logistics cost estimates for proposals, including preparing transport RFQs, managing bidder follow-ups, and completing offer comparisons.
OTR / Sourcing
Prepare and launch transport RFQs to approved logistics providers; manage offer clarifications and alignment to scope.
Lead commercial evaluations, freight negotiations, and contract finalization with freight forwarders, heavy lift operators, and transporters (domestic and international).
Create purchase orders in ERP/SAP and support frame agreement set-up where applicable.
OTR / Execution
Build and maintain the project transport plan to support end-to-end logistics execution.
Coordinate shipment readiness and pickups with suppliers, procurement, project supply chain, and logistics service providers.
Coordinate with shipping lines/forwarders and customs brokers to ensure on-time arrival and proactive customs clearance.
Partner with Customs CoE and logistics providers to ensure compliant and timely clearance and dispatch to site using the most economical transport mode.
Optimize container/vehicle utilization and routing to reduce cost while ensuring safe delivery to site.
Ensure compliance with local customs/transport regulations and EHS requirements.
Enforce PALILA (Packing, Lifting & Lashing) requirements for safe handling and transportation.
Monitor and evaluate transporter/freight forwarder performance (cost, delivery, safety, quality) and drive corrective actions.
What you will bring (Required Qualifications):
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
Experience: Significant experience in Project Logistics (international); experience coordinating customs clearance and heavy/oversized transports.
Logistics expertise: Strong knowledge of road transport, ocean freight, and air freight.
Trade & contracts: Hands-on experience with Incoterms application and contract management; ability to run RFQs, negotiate, and manage suppliers.
Stakeholder management: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (Sourcing, Supply Chain, Project Execution) and external partners at all levels.
Communication: Highly competent communicator in a multi-stakeholder, matrix environment.
Desired Characteristics (Nice to have):
Hydropower and/or EPC project logistics experience (heavy lift and site logistics exposure).
Experience developing strategic logistics/trade solutions and working with international customs brokers and trade zones.
Prior experience supporting projects in Pakistan.
Regional project logistics SME mindset with focus on optimization and compliance.
Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement in logistics cost, delivery performance, and safety/compliance.
