IBM Senior DevOps Engineer (Database Focus) in BUDAPEST, Hungary
Introduction
We are a "You build it, You run it" culture. As a database expert, you will join our follow-the-sun rotation where you will be the primary responder for automated system alerts. You will follow runbooks to resolve such issues and use your troubleshooting and analytical skills to diagnose or troubleshoot platform or Data Service issues.

Your role and responsibilities
The IBM Cloud Databases (ICD) team is responsible for developing and operating the Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings that provide Database as a Service (DBaaS) in IBM Cloud. We build a customized platform on Kubernetes using operators that hosts PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, MySQL, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, or Kafka and automate the data-store life cycles.
We are a globally distributed team managing a large-scale, mission-critical production environment that serves customers around the world, including business-critical and high-availability workloads. Our systems operate at significant scale, requiring strong engineering discipline, operational excellence, and continuous innovation.

ICD is seeking cloud DevOps developers who have a passion for automating, running, and operating databases. You will develop configuration, scripts, and other tooling that allow databases to run in our highly available Kubernetes based Cloud Environment. You will participate in the design of the service, writing tools and automation, building containers, developing tests, determining monitoring best practices, and handling complex customer escalations. You must have an understanding in database software, replication, HA configurations, and operations in a production environment.
Required technical and professional expertise

Proven hands-on experience with Terraform, Kubernetes clusters, and Linux/Unix administrations in production environments.

Experience with installing and configuring database software. * Demonstrated experience operating one or more of PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, MySQL, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, or Kafka (or similar) in production environments.

Experience in Software Development (preferably Python or Golang).
Preferred technical and professional experience
*
Experience with CI/CD environments, automation using Jenkins.

Experience with large scale, cloud native, Geo-distributed production systems.

Experience in debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving database hosting issues (e.g, replication, clustering) in production.

Knowledge of database application best practices, including schema and index designs.

Experience in application and performance design using databases and troubleshooting of application-side database issues.
