Utility Systems Operator

Industry Government and Policy / Utility Operations

Schedule: Full-Time (Permanent)

Working hours : 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Compensation: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Responsibilities: You will serve as a critical guardian of public health by overseeing the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of water treatment facilities.

Plant Operations: Regulate water levels in reservoirs by managing pumps and valves; handle the safe replacement of chlorine cylinders and bleach tank refills.

Inspections: Perform regular inspections of plant equipment and well fields to ensure peak performance and detect mechanical flaws.

Laboratory Analysis: Collect water samples and conduct analysis (including pH and chlorine residual testing) to maintain state safety standards.

Preventive Maintenance: Execute mechanical and electrical servicing for motors, pumps, and specialized machinery to prevent downtime.

Monitoring and Logs: Accurately read meters, gauges, and dials to maintain meticulous operational logs and inventory records for spare parts. Leadership and Training: Supervise and mentor operator trainees, ensuring they follow proper safety and operational protocols.

Facility Care: Maintain a clean, organized, and professional plant environment through general custodial and grounds upkeep.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required (College coursework in Chemistry or Hydraulics is a plus)

Experience: 1-4 years in utility systems or mechanical/electrical trades

Qualifications: Licensing: Must possess a valid Class C Water Operators License and a clean Florida Drivers License.

Technical Skill: Deep understanding of water treatment principles, chemical processes, and high-capacity machinery servicing.

Equipment Operation: Proven ability to operate large trucks and heavy construction equipment.

Problem Solving: Ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure and follow complex oral/written instructions.

Trade Background: A background in mechanical or electrical trades is highly preferred to support facility maintenance.
