Job Title: Mechanical Assembler

Job Description

This role involves assembling mechanical components and panels using hand and power tools in a metal manufacturing environment. You will work from blueprints, prepare parts for painting, package completed assemblies, and support multiple departments through cross-training. The position requires flexibility, mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn and grow within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble hatches, panels, and other mechanical components using hand and power tools such as drills, wrenches, screwdrivers, torque tools, and tape measures.

  • Read and interpret blueprints to ensure accurate assembly and alignment of parts.

  • Prepare panels for painting by installing insulation and hanging panels on hooks or racks.

  • Package completed assemblies, verify accuracy, and prepare them for shipment or order fulfillment.

  • Cross-train in various departments to provide support and fill in where needed across the production floor.

  • Use mechanical skills to troubleshoot minor assembly issues and ensure quality standards are met.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of tools and personal protective equipment.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in a metal manufacturing environment.

  • Lift and move materials and assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily tasks.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of mechanical assembly experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.

  • Ability to read and use a tape measure with precision.

  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical components.

  • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools, including drills, screwdrivers, wrenches, and torque tools.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical assembly within environments similar to automotive or auto body shops.

  • Familiarity with torque tools and proper torque application.

  • Experience with basic mechanical tasks such as oil changes or similar work indicating strong mechanical inclination.

  • Willingness to cross-train and work in multiple departments as needed.

  • Ability to work from detailed blueprints and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.

Work Environment

This role is based in a metal manufacturing facility with conditions similar to an auto body shop, including a dirtier, hands-on environment. Multiple shift options are available. First shift schedules include: EBP Department with Monday–Thursday 5:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. and Friday 5:30 a.m.–9:30 a.m., with an extended Monday–Friday 5:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. schedule as needed; WBP Department with Monday–Thursday 5:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. and Friday 5:00 a.m.–9:00 a.m., with an extended Monday–Friday 5:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. schedule and potential mandatory Friday overtime from 2:30 p.m.–12:00 a.m. Occasional Saturday work is possible based on production needs. An additional shift option runs Monday–Thursday 2:30 p.m.–12:00 a.m. and Friday 12:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. There is also a weekend shift operating Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m., paid for 36 hours. The environment is non-union. Dress code requires long pants (no sweatpants or athletic wear) and a short-sleeve shirt or longer. Steel-toe boots are required for safety. Work involves regular use of hand and power tools and standing, walking, and lifting throughout the shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brooklyn Park, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.50/hr.
