Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) seeks a Substitute (Temporary) Academic Program Specialist for the Master of Arts in Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology program. This is a temporary position and is contingent upon available funding and program needs
The Academic Program Specialist for the Master of Arts in Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology (Group Processes & Organizational Behavior and Personnel & Human Resources) provides day-to-day administration of the two graduate programs. Reporting to the Chairperson of the Department of Psychology and the Graduate Deputy, the Program Specialist is responsible for the program's overall quality, growth, and alignment with Brooklyn College’s mission. The Academic Program Specialist works collaboratively with various campus offices to build and maintain relationships that support program activities, advance programming goals and enhance student success.
This position is housed within the Department of Psychology at Brooklyn College, reflecting a strong commitment to graduate education and professional development. Both M.A. in I-O Psychology programs are designed to prepare students for applied careers in personnel psychology, human resource management, talent management, organizational effectiveness, organizational consulting, and organizational development.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview duties include but are not limited to:
Program administration
Provide day-to-day program administration and coordination for the two M.A. Programs in I-O Psychology, ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to Brooklyn College and CUNY policies.
Serve as the primary point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders regarding program matters, including advising and mentoring graduate students as well as Brooklyn College undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in I-O psychology.
Collaborate with departmental and institutional leadership and faculty on strategic planning, resource allocation, and long-term program development.
Assist with recruitment, mentorship, and annual evaluation of new and current adjunct instructors.
Maintain program compliance with professional standards, graduate school policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Curriculum design and academic quality
Coordinate course scheduling, sequencing, and faculty teaching assignments in collaboration with academic leadership.
Coordinate curriculum review, development, and revision processes in collaboration with faculty to ensure program content remains current with the science and practice of I-O psychology.
Program Evaluation and Outcomes Assessment
Assist with developing and implementing a comprehensive program evaluation framework, including student learning outcomes assessment, graduate satisfaction surveys, post-graduation surveys, and employer feedback.
Collect, analyze, and report program performance data to inform continuous improvement efforts.
Coordinate annual assessment reporting in alignment with accreditation and institutional requirements.
Track and publicize student outcomes including placement rates, career trajectories, and alumni achievements.
Collect assessment data which will be used to drive evidence-based decisions about curriculum, pedagogy, and program structure.
Student recruitment and enrollment management
Assist with developing a student recruitment plan to attract high-quality, diverse applicants to the two M.A. programs.
Represent the program at graduate school fairs, Open Houses, information sessions, new student orientations, professional conferences, and community events.
Collaborate with the Office of Graduate Admissions to coordinate application review, admissions decisions, and yield strategies.
Develop compelling marketing and communication materials in collaboration with the Office of Marketing and Communications.
Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective students through targeting I-O interested undergraduate psychology majors at Brooklyn College as well as through digital outreach, campus visits, and alumni engagement.
Industry and community relations
Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships in collaboration with the Magner Center with employers, HR professionals, organizational consultants, and community partners in the I-O psychology field.
Establish and chair an industry advisory board to provide guidance on curriculum relevance, emerging workforce needs, and program development.
Represent the programs at professional associations such as SIOP, SHRM, local HR and OD chapters, and related industry networks.
Maintain the programs’ LinkedIn pages as well as other social media.
Develop partnerships in collaboration with the Magner Center that create experiential learning opportunities for students, including guest lectures, applied projects, and research collaborations.
Leverage employer relationships in collaboration with the Alumni Relations Office to enhance program visibility, support graduate placement, and facilitate job and internship connections.
Internship program development and management
Assist in identifying, recruiting, and managing relationships with internship site supervisors across industries including corporate HR, the consulting industry, healthcare, government, and nonprofits (in collaboration with the Magner Center).
Monitor student internship progress, address site-related challenges, and ensure quality of applied learning experiences.
Coordinate internship credit registration, documentation, and compliance with graduate education standards.
Occasional evening and weekend commitments for program events, recruitment activities, and student engagement.
Some travel may be required for professional conferences, recruitment events, and employer relations activities.

Depending on qualifications and departmental need, the Program Specialist may teach one graduate or undergraduate course per semester relevant to I-O Psychology in the evening as an Adjunct for additional compensation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) in Industrial-Organizational Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution preferred
Four years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration, academic program management, or a related professional field.
Demonstrated understanding of I-O psychology principles, competencies, and contemporary practice.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build effective relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and administrative responsibilities simultaneously.
Experience with data collection, reporting, and continuous improvement processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Industrial-Organizational Psychology.
Active membership or engagement in professional organizations such as SIOP (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology) or SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management).
Prior experience in curriculum development, academic assessment, or accreditation processes.
Established professional network in the HR, talent management, or organizational consulting sectors.
Experience designing or managing graduate internship or practicum programs.
Familiarity with student information systems, learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace), and tools used in graduate recruitment.
