RiseBoro Homecare Inc. Social Worker, School-based Programs in BROOKLYN, New York
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
RiseBoro Community Partnership is seeking a Social Worker to join the team at our school-based sites: RiseBoro Beacon and IS 349 Programs. This is an exciting opportunity funded by New York State LEAPS grant for a master's level Social Worker to be a leader in launching this initiative, which aims to enhance social, emotional, and mental health services for youth in north Brooklyn. As New York State recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for strong support systems for our young people and their families is more critical than ever. The Social Worker will play a pivotal role in providing this support, ensuring participants have the resources they need to succeed.
With an understanding of Positive Youth Development, the Social Worker provides critical strengths-based social-emotional support to youth during after-school program activities. Identifying and assessing the needs of the youth, the Social Worker provides targeted interventions and resources. The Social Worker encourages collaboration and engagement by facilitating communication with families, school leadership, and social service providers. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Family and Community Engagement:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, local agencies, and resources to support the needs of families. Connect families with services and resources that promote stability and growth
Collaborate closely with RiseBoro’s leadership, school administration, teachers, staff, and community organizations to address the needs of students, families, and the school community
Conduct thorough assessments of family needs and provide targeted support, ensuring that all students and their families have access to the necessary resources to thrive
Plan, organize, and facilitate workshops and events that engage families and the community, providing education and resources to support student success and family well-being. Enhance community and family engagement, focusing on mentorship, employment, and life skills training
Case Management and Internship:
Supervise the MSW internship program, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to interns. Ensure that the internship experience develops professional knowledge and aligns with the program's goals
Work alongside MSW interns to conduct small group and one-on-one sessions with students, focusing on social-emotional learning, personal development, and crisis intervention
Oversee the referral process for students and families in need of additional support
Provide guidance to interns who will be conducting comprehensive case management, including the development of action plans, tracking progress, and adjusting interventions as needed
Build and maintain multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated efforts in supporting students' social, emotional, and academic development
Positive Youth Development Anchor/Lead:
Serve as a role model and lead in the development of foundational skills including positive youth development, social-emotional learning, and behavior management
Offer ongoing training, support, and coaching to staff members on positive youth development, social-emotional learning, and behavior management strategies
Ensure practices are aligned with child development principles and current methodologies
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
Develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, participate in school-based meetings and contribute to long-term planning sessions that align with the program’s mission
COMPETENCIES
Strong understanding of social services systems and experience navigating these systems effectively.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach.
Experience in providing training and coaching to staff, with a focus on positive youth development and social-emotional learning.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution
New York State LMSW Licensure or SIFI preferred
At least 2 years of experience youth setting, working directly with students and families.
