Title: Career Development Specialist
Program: Barbara Kleiman Men’s Shelter
Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000 per year
Schedule: Hybrid post 90-days
Program Description:
The Barbara Kleiman Men’s Shelter is a 200-bed, 24/7 emergency shelter for homeless men. The program will serve both individuals diagnosed with mental illness and/or substance use disorders and individuals who are employed/seeking employment. Our comprehensive services include case management, individual and group counseling, mental health care and primary medical care, recreational activities, occupational therapy, employment services and job readiness services, and housing placement assistance.
Position Summary:
The Career Development Specialist will be responsible for the full life cycle of pre- and post-employment services provided at Barbara Kleiman Men’s Shelter. They will conduct assessments, develop and implement service plans to remove barriers to employment, coordinate referrals to Project Renewal’s job training programs, and support clients throughout the job readiness process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties of the Career Development Specialist include but are not limited to the following activities
Assesses clients in shelter facility to identify career development needs
Provides one-on-one and group career development workshops
Works closely with OT to provide pre-employment and employment related skills
Provides referrals as needed to additional training at Project Renewal, Inc or other Workforce Development Training Programs
Manage client placement and retention milestone goals
Help clients prepare resumes and obtain references
Tracking and reporting on program data and outcomes
Entering accurate and timely client information, progress, and documentation into required databases and case records
Other duties as determined by supervisor and/or program needs
Qualifications:
High School Diploma; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Must have at least 2-3 years of experience in case management, career coach, job placement or vocational counseling within a workforce development capacity serving special populations including adults with histories of homelessness, substance use, criminal backgrounds, and/or serious mental illness.
Excellent communication, presentation and computer skills are a must.
