Lecturer or Assistant Professor - Studio Art & Art History
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Art & Music seeks a full-time Lecturer or Assistant Professor to teach courses in Studio Art and Art History, beginning Fall 2026.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will teach a combination of Studio Art and Art History courses. Studio teaching may include foundational and intermediate courses such as Drawing, Painting, Design Foundations, and/or other studio offerings , while Art History teaching may include survey courses. The department is especially interested in candidates who are committed to teaching and mentoring an under-served, diverse student population in an urban community-college setting.
Teaching responsibilities will include the incorporation of experiential learning activities , both in-person and virtual. The faculty member is expected to be available to students through regularly scheduled weekly office hours on campus .
As a full-time member of the department, the candidate will also expected to:
Contribute to curriculum and program development
Serve on departmental, college, and university committees
Assist with college gallery activities and support studio art classroom operations
Advise and mentor students
Participate in other department-related initiatives and projects as assigned
Courses may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekend, and may include distance-learning formats , as needed by the department. Participation in professional development activities may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
For Lecturer:
Bachelor's degree in a related (master's degree preferred)
Minimum of one (1) year of industry-related experience
Minimum of two (2) years of college-level teaching experience, with community college teaching experience preferred; distance-learning experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to teach successfully
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administration
For Assistant Professor:
Terminal degree (master's degree or higher) in a related field
Minimum of three (3) years of industry-related experience
Minimum of four (4) years of college-level teaching experience, with community college teaching experience preferred; distance-learning experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to teach successfully
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administration
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience coordinating, curating, or supporting exhibitions in an academic or community gallery setting
Experience supporting student exhibitions and gallery-based experiential learning activities
Experience supporting or coordinating art studio operations
COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications in accordance with the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
Lecturer Salary Range: $57,039 - $89,236
Assistant Professor Salary Range: $57,252 - $94,909
