Job Title: Welder Helper
Job Description
This role supports structural steel erection on commercial construction projects and offers hands-on experience in welding and steel fabrication. You will assist experienced welders and ironworkers with lifting, positioning, and installing heavy steel components while learning to use stick and wire welding equipment in a fast-paced construction environment.
Responsibilities
Assist with structural steel erection on commercial construction projects under the direction of experienced crew members.
Support stick welding operations, primarily using wire welding machines, with training provided as needed.
Work with structural steel components including tube steel columns, beams, and plates.
Help clip plates to columns and assist with bar joist reinforcement, including overhead and ceiling work.
Assist with installation of reinforced structural components throughout the building structure.
Support installation work related to T-beam concrete flooring and ceilings.
Provide assistance with support work around HVAC and AC units as required on each project.
Safely help lift, position, and install steel beams and other components weighing thousands of pounds using appropriate tools and equipment.
Use basic hand tools and power tools, such as grinders and other mechanical tools, to prepare and finish steel components.
Work safely and efficiently on a variety of job sites, including docks, hospitals, banks, and other commercial buildings.
Travel to different job sites as needed, with job locations that may change weekly.
Follow all safety procedures, wear required PPE, and actively contribute to a safe job site.
Collaborate with team members, communicate clearly, and support a strong culture of teamwork on each project.
Essential Skills
Basic welding knowledge, with stick welding preferred and familiarity with wire welding machines considered an advantage.
Ability to assist with structural steel erection in a commercial construction environment.
Experience or exposure to structural steel components such as tube steel, columns, beams, and plates.
Understanding of bar joist reinforcement or a strong willingness to learn.
Ability to perform overhead and ceiling work safely and consistently.
Familiarity with commercial construction job sites and their demands.
Basic proficiency with hand tools and power tools, including grinders and other mechanical equipment.
Capability to perform heavy physical work and lift materials with assistance and proper equipment.
Comfort working indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather and site conditions.
Strong attention to safety practices and procedures.
Demonstrated reliability, teamwork, and consistent work ethic.
Reliable transportation and ability to travel to changing job sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Willingness to learn welding techniques and structural steel erection methods from experienced professionals.
Basic experience with welding, fabrication, or construction is beneficial but not required.
Comfort working at heights and performing frequent overhead tasks.
Ability to read and follow basic instructions, drawings, or blueprints is a plus.
Previous exposure to production, assembly, or mechanical work environments is advantageous.

Work Environment
This position follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with paid drive time when traveling to job sites. You will work in active commercial construction environments that are physically demanding and fast-paced. The work involves heavy physical labor, frequent overhead tasks, and working at heights on projects that vary in location and scope, including docks, hospitals, banks, and other commercial buildings. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, grinders, and welding equipment in both indoor and outdoor settings. Steel-toe boots are required, and a hard hat is provided, along with additional personal protective equipment as required by each job site.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
