Summary: The Truck Technician Intern will work closely with a mentor to perform operational duties relating to trucks and engine service and repair. The internship will be based on school requirements, typically following school days, amounting to less than 30 hours per week.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Collaborates with a mentor to complete work, as work cannot be performed without a mentor or supervisor present.
Works with supervisor and mentor to follow a career development plan.
Completes service reports, and cleans mechanical parts, and components.
Performs maintenance activities on engine and or equipment.
Locates and uses service literature and/or technical information on Peterbilt and other OEM websites.
Communicates effectively with and works harmoniously and constructively with other employees and customers.
Attends required safety training classes and onsite training as needed.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications:
Individuals must be enrolled in a high school vocational automotive or diesel program.
Maintaining a 2.5 GPA is preferred.
A good school attendance record is required.
Must have strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to learn to use and maintain equipment and machinery, basic computer skills, effective reading and writing skills, and mathematical aptitude.
The ability to work on a team or individually, strong work ethic, good attention to detail, and customer service, organizational, and time management skills are required.
Physical Requirements:Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
