WATER TREATMENT OPERATOR/MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
WATER DIVISION - WATER and SEWER DEPARTMENT
SUMMARY
:
Operates Class IV Water Treatment Plant. Responsible for operation and maintenance of all equipment necessary for the proper functioning of such plant. Must be qualified to collect water quality samples at various locations and perform physical testing of water samples to analyze water system efficiency. Monitors and records all data of operation. Performs routine and emergency maintenance as directed at treatment facilities, wells, pump stations, and water storage tanks. Keeps accurate and complete records on testing results, shift activities, emergency calls, maintenance work performed, and any other information necessary for the proper operation of the plant. Calibrates and maintains various mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment. Works with water treatment chemicals. Keeps logs of all deliveries. Works in confined spaces as necessary. Analyzes, calibrates and maintains various mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment. Reports any malfunctioning or operational problems. Must understand mechanical and scientific principles of each process unit. Must have general understanding of turbidity, total coliform, fecal coliform, disinfectant residual, pH, hardness, and coagulation to determine operational adjustments. Performs general plant maintenance and housekeeping necessary to keep the plant in sanitary condition. Performs all or any duties of those in equal or lesser codes in the department relative to charge of responsibility.
WORK SCHEDULE:
40 hours /week, must be available to work any shift; shift differential applies to 2^nd^ and 3^rd^ shift work. Schedule posted 7 days in advance. Regular work days include any day of the week (Mon- Sun).
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE
: Requires high school graduate or GED. One (1)year of practical experience in water treatment plant operations desirable. Must be able to comprehend all operator and maintenance manuals necessary for the proper operation of the Water Treatment Plant, wells, pump stations and water storage tanks. Requires basic level computer literacy skills.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION
: Requires CT Driver License. Shall obtain CT Class I Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification within 18 months of hire; then shall obtain CT Class II Water Treatment Plant Operator certification within 30 months; then shall obtain CT Class III Water Treatment Plant Operator certification within 42 months, and upon such Class III certification will upgraded to M3 pay, Class IV Water Treatment Plant Operator certification shall be obtained within 54 months.

:
Starting
: $27.81/hr. At 6 months - $29.17/hr. At 1 Year Service - $30.87/hr.
With Class III or Class IV Cert
: $30.94/hr. At 6 months Service - $32.48/hr. At 1 Year Service - $34.13/hr.
