Winninger Fire Protection Inc. Extinguisher Room Technician in Bridgeport, Michigan
Position Title: Extinguisher Room Technician Department: Operations Reports To: Director of Operations
Position Summary The Extinguisher Room Technician plays a critical role in supporting Winninger Fire Protection's life safety mission by ensuring fire extinguishers are properly maintained, compliant with applicable standards, and ready for deployment. This position is responsible for day-to-day extinguisher service operations, maintaining an organized workspace, and ensuring all required tools and materials are stocked and operational.
Key Responsibilities Fire Extinguisher Service • Perform maintenance, inspections, and testing of portable fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA 10 and company procedures • Conduct internal inspections, recharges, and assist with hydrostatic testing processes • Identify deficiencies and communicate service needs to leadership • Ensure all serviced equipment meets Winninger Fire Protection quality standards Inventory & Stock Management • Maintain appropriate stock levels of extinguisher parts, agent, cylinders, valves, and recharge materials • Notify leadership when inventory levels reach reorder thresholds • Receive and organize incoming shipments Equipment & Workspace Maintenance • Maintain service equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation • Keep the extinguisher room clean, organized, and inspection-ready • Follow all safety procedures and housekeeping standards Documentation • Accurately complete service documentation and tagging • Assist with tracking serviced inventory within company systems Responsibilities may evolve as Winninger Fire Protection continues to grow and scale operations.
Qualifications • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools • Strong attention to detail • Ability to follow structured processes and safety standards • Organizational skills with the ability to manage inventory • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods • Fire extinguisher experience preferred, but training will be provided

About Us In 1988, as a journeyman sprinkler fitter and plumber, Hal Wininger applied for his Michigan Mechanical Contractor's License to start Wininger Fire Protection, Inc. From his barn in Frankenmuth, MI he came armed with a Construction Management degree from Ferris State University and 16 years of skilled trade knowledge. He slowly grew the company but quickly gained a reputation for dependable, efficient, quality installations of fire protection systems. Early projects included the world famous Bronner's Christmas Wonderland and Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth and the University of Toledo Museum of Art. The sphere of construction now stretches from military barracks and industrial buildings to churches and nursing homes.
Proud of his Frankenmuth (Michigan's Little Bavaria) background, Hal decided to change the spelling of his company's name to Winninger Fire Protection, to reflect the town and his German roots. For more than 30 years, the company has remained a family owned and operated enterprise. Hal continues to oversee much of the design and installation. His son Wes, lured from his pharmacist career, has joined the company by directing estimating, purchasing and project manageme
