Position Summary
The City of Bridge City is seeking a dedicated and responsible Animal Control Officer to join its team. This position is responsible for enforcing local animal control ordinances, ensuring public safety, and promoting the humane treatment of animals within the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce city and state animal control laws and ordinances
- Respond to calls regarding stray, injured, or aggressive animals
- Capture and safely transport animals to designated facilities
- Investigate animal complaints, including neglect, abuse, and nuisance cases
- Issue warnings and citations as necessary
- Maintain accurate records and reports of incidents and activities
- Educate the public on animal safety, control regulations, and responsible pet ownership
- Assist in the care and handling of animals in custody
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in animal control, law enforcement, or animal care preferred
- Knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Valid Texas drivers license with a good driving record
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, restraining animals, and working outdoors in various weather conditions
Working Conditions
- Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to potentially dangerous or aggressive animals
- On-call or after-hours response may be required
