Responsible for repairs and ongoing maintenance of facilities. The Maintenance function includes installation, service, troubleshooting, and repair.
Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities
Demonstrates and applies knowledge of facility maintenance functions. This includes understanding the materials required for maintaining each area, i.e. basic plumbing, basic carpentry, basic electrical, and mechanical systems, and their general functions.
Troubleshoots with a focus on development of a repair procedure, must be able to identify the needed parts and tools to perform all needed tasks. Must have the ability to communicate these needs in order to facilitate the procurement of the parts.
Demonstrates basic experience with and safe operations of , i.e. /loader/, chainsaw, weed trimmer, pressure washer, snowblower etc.
Works with others when problem-solving and repairing or working within their area.
Develops knowledge of the maintenance work order system to provide the required information for submittal and closure of work orders.
Demonstrates a desire to continuously improve and learn new skills that add value to the business process.
Reports defects and damages to supervision.
Tests and makes adjustments to mechanical/electrical/plumbing components and equipment after repairs or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications and company safety standards.
Uses a number of tools including electrical, plumbing, and engine driven; welding and cutting equipment; jacks; hoists and hand tools (e.g., wrenches). Uses computer systems to help diagnose the cause of some problems with heavy equipment.
Fuels and lubricates equipment and performs preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
Communicates with the leaders regarding parts and repair orders.
Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and inspection tasks as assigned.
There is no supervision of other workers at this level.
Demonstrates a strong focus by applying the highest level of service to internal customers through work order processing.
Must be able to work independently and resolve practical problems.
Must complete required training and certification for the Maintenance area in accordance with the Maintenance progression process for a technician. This includes participating in new employee safety training, basic skills training, equipment specific training, material handling equipment, and team building exercises.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Skills
Basic analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills. (Mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
Ability to work together with other technicians to diagnose routine and complex issues related to repair/service scheduling, tools required for mechanical repairs, generate potential solutions based on mechanical knowledge and make repairs as required
Basic verbal and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills and team player attitude
This position is a replacement for an employee on LOA.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements Education
High School diploma or GED
Vocational training, certification, and/or minimum of one (1) year related experience in basic facility maintenance
Certifications
Valid driver's license or eligible to get a valid Provincial drivers license
Required Experience
A minimum of 1 year of experience in basic facility maintenace activities
Preferred Experience
Basic industrial electrical
Basic plumbing
Basic Mechanics
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to perform physically demanding work
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and environments wherein there is exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to perform maintenance duties at elevated heights and in confined spaces.
Ability to stand and walk
Ability to effectively communicate; speaking, reading, understanding, writing and hearing clear English; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
Ability to wear protective equipment such as: goggles, ear plugs, hard hat, gloves, and steel toe boots, fall protection, respirator.
Ability to read small text, documents, procedures, and instrument readouts; manipulate packages
Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and around ionizing radiation
Forklift certification
