Supervision Received:

Works under the general supervision of and receives assignments from the Director of Administrative Services, Human Resources and Risk Manager, and City Administration.

General Purpose of the Position:

To provide light clerical support to the City Council and City Clerk in a public contact setting, as well as answering the main City Hall phone line using a multi-line telephone, routing calls, greeting public and providing information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Greet visitors and direct them as appropriate.

Anticipate needs of visitors in order to help ensure customer satisfaction.

Open, operate and close the City of Bradenton's switchboard.

Provide information regarding City or department activities and operations with appropriate discretion and in accordance with 'Government in the Sunshine' laws.

Answer routine, non-technical questions; process incoming mail.

Possess excellent customer service (interaction) skills.

Ability to engage visitors in an outgoing, friendly manner.

Knowledge of the location, function and key personnel of all City departments.

Understanding of 'Government in the Sunshine' and Florida public record laws.

Ability to convey information respectfully and with appropriate discretion.

Ability to speak in a pleasant and well-modulated voice.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees and the general public.

Ability to exhibit a calming presence and use diplomacy when needed during potentially stressful interactions.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions: Indoors in an office environment.

Computer Equipment and Software Requirements: Mitel

Connect Communicator, Microsoft Office products, multi-line telephone, basic copier/scanner/fax equipment.

Education and Experience Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Two (2) years of experience in communications as a receptionist or in a customer service environment, or the equivalent in education, training and experience which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida driver's license.

At the discretion of the City Administrator or designee, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.

Valid Florida driver license is required to obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida and ability to maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
