Brief Position Overview
Montana State University is seeking a full-time video content creator. This position is responsible for video production, post-production, video graphics and the creation of original content for social media, marketing and special projects that support the university’s mission.

General Statement
Montana State University Communications supports and promotes MSU’s activities through expert and creative communications. We provide a wide range of services to the university community through our operational units: Montana PBS , the MSU News Service, MSU Creative Services, MSU Web and Digital Communications, University Marketing, and Visual Media.
Montana State University was founded in 1893 as Montana’s first land-grant university and is Montana’s largest university, the largest research entity in Montana and a Carnegie top-tier research university.
Reporting to the director of visual media, this position is responsible for creating video pieces for use across all Montana State University digital properties and social media. The video content creator is a critical member of the University Communications creative team and should be proactive about suggesting new projects, introducing new technologies, and creating content that supports the university’s strategic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate video content including concept, storyboarding, audio, lighting, interviewing, editing, and final production for projects that advance the University mission
Continuously strengthen individual capabilities by staying current with best video practices, new/emerging technology and storytelling techniques
Adhere to deadlines in a fast-paced environment and deliver highly polished projects under strict time constraints
Accept feedback and creative criticism professionally, using it for the betterment of the project and communication of the university’s mission
Collaborate with other members of the University Communications team including video producers, photographers, marketing specialists and writers
Collaborate with the Social Media Manager to create content for social media platforms such as Youtube, Facebook and Instagram
Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas
Manage multiple projects on tight deadlines
Perform duties as otherwise assigned to support the department and university
Act as an ambassador for the communications office and the university within a fast-paced and highly regarded team environment
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated expertise creating short-form video content for social media platforms
A strong portfolio showcasing a deep understanding of engaging, fast-past content for visual storytelling
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly articulate concepts, establish and maintain working relationships with a culturally diverse population
Experience in video production, social media content creation or marketing with an emphasis in video content or related field.
Expertise with content creation tools and software including, video cameras, lighting, audio recording, video editing and final production with Adobe Creative Cloud.
Ability to work in all weather conditions and rugged outdoor terrain
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel with equipment when needed
Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends is essential
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
A bachelor’s degree or certificate in video production, digital marketing, broadcast journalism and/or3-5 years experience as a staff or working professional in these or related fields
Experience creating video content in dynamic sports venues
Ability to reinforce a brand voice for social media
Experience interviewing and filming students, executives or public figures

Physical Demands
Must be able to carry video equipment over backcountry terrain in summer or winter conditions.
Must be able to carry video equipment up stairs.
Must be able to operate video equipment from multiple heights sometimes in uncommon positions for various lengths of time.
Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.
Must be able to work at altitudes above 5,000 ft in elevation.
