Actalent Construction Safety Manager in Boydton, Virginia

Job Title: Construction Safety ManagerJob Description

This onsite Construction Safety Manager role oversees safety and production activities within a construction environment, ensuring that work meets safety, quality, and efficiency standards. The position is based in South Hill, VA, and involves approximately a 50/50 split between field and office work. You will lead safety initiatives, coordinate with construction partners, and help maintain compliance with established safety policies and key performance indicators.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of production and operating workers on construction sites to ensure safe and efficient operations.

  • Implement measures to motivate employees and improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and overall efficiency.

  • Review daily operations and collaborate with technical and administrative staff to identify and resolve production or processing problems.

  • Develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems to monitor performance and detect production issues early.

  • Analyze production, quality control, and maintenance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and, when necessary, discharge staff while maintaining fair and consistent personnel practices.

  • Resolve personnel issues and grievances in a professional and timely manner.

  • Set and monitor product and work standards to ensure that all finished work meets quality and safety requirements.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate production reports and personnel records for compliance and performance tracking.

  • Attend safety- and quality-oriented site walks to proactively identify hazards and verify adherence to safety policies.

  • Review paperwork related to daily tasks, permits, and safety documentation to ensure completeness and compliance.

  • Plan future tasks and activities with a focus on compliance with established safety policies and procedures.

  • Engage regularly with general contractor partners and other stakeholders to promote a strong safety culture and collaborative work environment.

  • Adhere to defined key performance indicators and incorporate peer feedback to continuously improve safety and production outcomes.

Essential Skills

  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly convey safety expectations and production requirements.

  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills in a construction and production environment.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control techniques relevant to construction and manufacturing activities.

  • Understanding of methods for optimizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods and materials.

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance, as they relate to construction and production work.

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 5–7 years of experience in construction or a closely related production environment.

  • At least 2 years of experience in the construction field working with a general contractor, owner, or subcontractor.

  • Experience as a Safety Manager or in a similar safety-focused role within a construction environment.

  • OSHA 30 certification.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in business or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience working in data center construction environments is preferred but not required.

  • Proficiency with Bluebeam for reviewing and managing construction documents.

  • Experience with Primavera P6 (P6) scheduling software is beneficial for candidates who have prior exposure.

  • Solid interpersonal skills that enable effective engagement and collaboration with general contractor partners and project stakeholders.

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for safety, quality, and production outcomes.

  • Comfort working in both field and office settings and transitioning between them throughout the workday.

Work Environment

This is a full-time onsite role in South Hill, VA, with an expected schedule of approximately 40 hours per week. The position involves a balanced mix of field and office work, with about half the time spent on active construction sites and half on administrative and planning tasks. You will work closely with construction teams and project partners in a collaborative environment that emphasizes safety, quality, and adherence to key performance indicators. The role requires the use of standard office technology and construction-related software, including a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset, as well as Bluebeam and, when applicable, P6. Field work requires strict adherence to safety attire and equipment, including a Class 2 safety helmet, Class 2 or higher safety vest, cut and impact resistant gloves, ANSI Z87.1 or higher safety glasses or visor, composite toe work boots made of leather or a leather alternative that extend at least 4 inches above the ankle (no low-cut or sneaker-style footwear), and a Class 2 or higher reflective jacket suitable for cold and wet weather. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr.
