Actalent Site Safety And Health Officer in Box Elder, South Dakota

Job Title: Site Safety and Health Officer (Open to Travelers + Per Diem)

Job Description

We are seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for an 8-month contract at Ft Des Moines. The project primarily involves tenant improvements to barracks and administrative buildings, with a total project value of $31 million. This role is salary exempt. While local candidates are preferred, per diem can be provided for regional candidates if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA).

  • Conduct daily safety, health, and equipment inspections to identify and mitigate risks.

  • Lead site safety orientations, daily and weekly safety meetings, and provide training on hazard recognition.

  • Investigate accidents, near-misses, and injuries to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Maintain comprehensive records of safety logs, inspections, and training.

  • Implement project safety processes as stipulated by the approved Health and Safety Plan, Accident Prevention Plan, and Activity Hazard Analyses.

  • Conduct daily, weekly, and/or monthly safety briefings and audits.

  • Fill out or obtain daily work permits such as confined space, hot work, safe work, or dig permits.

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to obtain safety certifications for subcontractor employees.

  • Document competent persons on site for each scope of work.

  • Amend activity hazard analysis to reflect any field changes on project sites.

  • Implement reporting procedures in the event of an incident or accident.

  • Evaluate incidents/accidents to determine necessary procedural changes to prevent recurrence.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of installation/federal construction experience.

  • Recent 5 years of experience as an SSHO (within the last 7-8 years).

  • Federal Building construction experience.

  • EM 385 regulation compliance.

  • RMS experience.

  • OSHA 30 certification within the last 5 years.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in safety management within construction projects.

  • Experience with USACE, submittals, RFI, and Procore.

Work Environment

The work environment involves a large-scale federal construction site at Ft Des Moines. The position requires daily onsite presence to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Candidates should be prepared to work in a dynamic and potentially hazardous environment, conducting inspections and safety meetings regularly. A laptop is required for this role, and candidates must be comfortable using safety management software and tools.

This is a Contract position based out of Box Elder, SD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $62.50/hr.
