Summary

 

The Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) serves as the institutional strategist for enhancing BGSU's data, analytics and emerging technologies capabilities. Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President, they will lead efforts for developing and implementing an institution-wide data and analytics strategy, ensuring overall data governance and quality, transforming data into actionable insights, and fostering a data-driven culture on campus. The CDAO will lead a team of data professionals and analysts and collaborate with university leaders to co-create analytics solutions to support the implementation of the strategic plan. They will support a university-wide AI strategy for student and faculty success, staff support, and other opportunities for creating value within the university. In this role, the CDAO will collaborate with academic leaders including Deans and Chairs and other units on campus including the Center for Faculty Excellence, Student Engagement and Success, Information Technology Services, Enrollment Management and the CFO's office.

 

Essential Functions

 

Institutional Data Leadership and Data Literacy

• Build a comprehensive data and analytics strategy that is aligned to BGSU's strategic priorities.

• Serve as the primary lead for the institution's data governance efforts. Establish and implement effective processes and standards including data quality, accuracy, integrity, and availability.

• Ensure compliance with data-related legal and regulatory standards and oversee policies on data access, ownership, stewardship, and other related policies in collaboration with the CIO.

• Expand training initiatives and resources to improve data literacy across campus, ensuring stakeholders can effectively use data to drive institutional goals.

 

AI Strategy

• Collaborate with the Center for Faculty Excellence to support an overall strategy to integrate AI for enhancing teaching and student learning.

• Ensure data readiness for enterprise AI usage, manage possible data and privacy risks, and collaborate with the CIO to develop strategies for AI tools, technologies and platform-related integration.

• Facilitate the development of personalized and adaptive AI-based student support models in collaboration with Student Engagement and Success to increase retention and completion.

• Foster awareness and understanding of AI tools and other emerging technologies among staff and administrative professionals.

 

Analytics Support for Institutional Priorities

• Enhance overall support and institutional data capabilities to meet the reporting requirements of external agencies, and other state and federal compliance, and ensure accurate data related to overall institutional performance.

• Support Deans and Executive Council in identifying opportunities for revenue generation, strategic academic investments, efficiencies in course scheduling, student success strategies, and academic space utilization.

 

Administrative and Management Responsibilities
