Who We Are

As the University's oldest institute, INSTAAR has a long history of responding to pressing environmental issues including climate change. Our traditional focus has been on alpine, Arctic, and Antarctic regions, where effects of global change are especially pronounced. In recent decades, our research has broadened to include environmental challenges that span local, regional, and global scales. INSTAAR's research activities integrate field studies, state-of-the-art laboratory experiments, sample analysis, and numerical and laboratory modeling. Our field sites are located across all seven continents and the world's oceans.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The Temporary Researcher job duties include (but not limited to):

  • Support analytical chemistry efforts for processing water samples. Assist in weekly to biweekly fieldwork in Rocky Mountain National Park and Green Lakes Valley at hike in hike out sites.

  • Assist in data upload and metadata collection for associated sampling events and field activities.

This position will start in May 2026.

What We Can Offer

Salary will be $18.90/hour.

What We Require

  • Current undergraduate student in environmental science of biological sciences. Preference for students in their Junior or Senior years.

What You Will Need

  • Experience with limnological field skills including sediment coring, van dorn sampling, and water travel.

  • Experience in analytical laboratory skills including gas chromatography, loss on ignition sediment processing, acid washing, and micro pipetting.

  • Experience working or recreating in mountainous ecosystems including extensive days of hiking or backpacking.
